Premier League club urged to sign Jamie Vardy amid Celtic free transfer links

Everton should look no further than Jamie Vardy to help bolster their attacking options, according to club legend Alan Stubbs. The Toffees’ woes in front of goal were laid bare in Monday’s season opening 1-0 defeat at Leeds. Vardy is still searching for a new clubGetty Boss David Moyes fielded Beto as the lone striker at Elland Road supported by Iliman Ndiaye, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Carlos Alcaraz. But a lack of cutting edge was evident in a match that saw Jack Grealish make his debut for the club as a second-half substitute. The defeat signalled Everton’s need for reinforcements in attack with a little over two weeks remaining in the transfer window and Stubbs believes free agent striker Vardy would be the perfect acquisition for Moyes’ side. Asked if he would take a punt on Jamie Vardy, the ex-Everton defender told talkSPORT: “Oh 100 per cent. I think he’s very different to what we’ve got as well. “We’ve got two very similar strikers, two big lads but we haven’t got anyone who’s that direct and most importantly, a proven goalscorer. “You look at Iliman Ndiaye, Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, they’re players who are looking to slide balls in down the side. “They are looking for a clever player to run onto them. I’ve got to be honest, I think Vardy is a perfect player for Everton right now.” The 38-year-old, who has been heavily lined with a reunion with former boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic, has been without a club since leaving Leicester City at the end of last season. Upon announcing his exit, Vardy was quick to point out that he had no plans to hang his boots up just yet. And his nine Premier League goals last term amid a succession of muscle injuries supports the theory that Vardy still has plenty to offer at the highest level.
