A lesson in faith and hope.
Yesterday, Phil Robertson, the founder of Duck Commander and patriarch of the Robertson family and Duck Dynasty star, passed away. His passing occurred after revealing earlier this year that he was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
The Robertson family announced his passing with a social media statement that celebrated the great man they knew and pointed toward his deep faith, knowing that he’s at peace.
“We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord. He reminded us often of the words of Paul, ‘you do not grieve like those who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.’
Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life saved by grace, by his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who would listen the Good News of Jesus. We are grateful for his life on earth and will continue the legacy of love for God and love for others until we see him again.”
Phil Robertson was very open about his faith, and his family knows he is resting with their maker in Heaven from that statement. At the time of his diagnosis, his son Al Robertson said that his father’s strong faith brought them comfort during this difficult time. They knew that seeing their father deteriorate would not be for the weak, but they knew he was going to have peace during it all because of his beliefs.
“If he were here, you know what he would say. ‘Boys, the resurrection looms large as you get nearer and nearer the end.’
So we’re not worried in that sense with him, but it’s just one of those things we have to deal with.”
Robertson, too, was not worried about the outcome after his diagnosis. Since his passing, a clip from Unashamed with Phil & Jase Robertson, a podcast where Phil and his sons, Jase and Al, delve into faith, family, and more, is going viral, where he talks about how he wants those on earth to mourn after he passes.
“Do not cry when I die.”
He says. Jace then jokes that his dad has an announcement, and Phil continues saying he wants everyone to do anything but cry when he passes.
“Dance, sing, but don’t cry when I die. When I die, say, ‘He made it because I watched him walk through the years, hurt back or no back.'”
Jace then asks if this is a revelation he had when awakened. However, this was not the first time Phil or his sons talked about what happens when it’s time to be with the Lord. Phil has spoken numerous times about how you reach eternal life, sharing scripture and morals you need to hold at the center of your life to be welcome into the golden gates of Heaven.
“When I die, some will cry, and some will leap for joy. But there’s something I want everyone to remember. – Phil Robertson”
He wrote in the caption of one YouTube video talking about the afterlife.
Phil Robertson was a fearless family leader and a devout follower of Christ. Rest in peace, Phil, you deserve to rest in the Kingdom of God.
