Perturbator Teams Up with Ulver for “Apocalypse Now”, New Album ‘Age of Aquarius’ Announced

Earlier this year, French composer/producer/multi-instrumentalist James Kent — otherwise known as Perturbator — signed with Nuclear Blast. It was a big moment that had major implications for the future of Perturbator’s work, including the new album he was working on at the time.

Earlier today, details about that new record titled Age of Aquarius were unveiled, along with its second single, “Apocalypse Now.” Set for release on October 10, the album will feature all of the badass darkwave synths and heavy, yet danceable tunes you’d expect from a Perturbator release.

As you can hear below, the sound and style of new track “Apocalypse Now” really grooves. It’s dark and moody, of course, but it also features Ulver’s Kristoffer Rygg on vocals.

Speaking of the track, Kent said it was very much a comment on all the death and destruction happening out there in the world these days.

“‘Apocalypse Now’ is a song about the systematic destruction we cause to our own kind. It is our inability to get along with–and often vilify–’the others.’ Thus accelerating the end of our ways of life through simple hubris and self validation.”

As for the entirety of Age of Aquarius, Kent said it’s got an overarching story to tell.

“The first half of Age of Aquarius is all about conflict. The misanthropy and violence that lays in all of us. The second part of the album then talks about individualism. The understanding that group-thinking leads to nowhere and having your own free will is the single most essential thing we have in life.”
