Absolutely senseless.
This afternoon, conservative activist and media personality Charlie Kirk died at the age of 31 after being shot during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University this afternoon.
While the school originally announced that a suspect was in custody, police later confirmed that he was NOT the shooter and that the suspect was still at large.
Kirk, whose full name was Charles James Kirk, was an American right-wing political activist, author, and media personality. He was famously known for being a founder of Turning Point USA, a nonprofit organization that advocates for conservative politics on high school, college, and university campuses.
The popular political pundit was famous for traveling around to various college campuses, speaking to students on political topics. Given his outward right-wing views, his events often attracted many left-wing attendees anxious to debate or argue, and he was often the subject of protests and criticism from the left, though he encouraged thoughtful debate over violence and arguments.
Kirk leaves behind a wife, Erika, and two young children, a 3-year old daughter and a 1-year old son, and a legacy as one of the most important political figures of the last two decades who never held public office.
Immediately after his death was announced, tributes to Kirk began pouring in, including from the country music community:
Parker McCollum
“I don’t even know what to say anymore. Charlie was one of the greatest young patriots this country has ever seen. Thank you for standing up for what so many of us believe so strongly. May God have mercy on your soul and watch over your precious family.”
Randy Houser
“Who are we? What have we become? This is what political division has created. The media have profited from the great separation. We have been played like a gimp fiddle. This is another attack from the “peaceful” left on an outspoken Christian conservative. I’m sick to my stomach. This grown man just killed another young man with kids to raise for speaking his mind. This could absolutely be strike 2 or even 3 of something nobody wants to see coming…the value of human life is almost non existent and the pool is almost dry. Sad, sad day. Prayers for his beautiful family. God please give them peace.”
John Rich
“It was an honor to know Charlie Kirk, and sing at his events. He was a true Christian, and is now seeing Jesus face to face. Pray for his family and friends. RIP Charlie, you made a difference in this world, and you will be sorely missed.”
JR Carroll
Hannah Dasher
Gavin Adcock
Kameron Marlowe
Jason Aldean
“I don’t have the words for this right now. Sad, infuriated, and mostly heartbroken for his wife and kids.”
Brittany Aldean
Tanner Usrey
Lee Greenwood
Chris Janson
Amen. Just absolutely sickening that this is where we are in society, and that there are actually people celebrating the death of a husband and father. A sad day for America, no matter which side of the political aisle you’re on.The post Parker McCollum, Randy Houser, John Rich & Many More React To Senseless Murder Of Charlie Kirk first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
