So I’m guessing that means there’s no Paramore/Morgan Wallen collab in the future?
I’ll be honest, I used to absolutely jam to Paramore’s “Still Into You” back in the day and I loved their music. When I was in middle and high school, they were huge, and I was kind of a little emo girl so I loved them. And the band’s lead singer Hayley Williams is actually a Nashville native, believe it or not, though they certainly aren’t part of the country music industry. Paramore is one of the quintessential pop punk bands of the early 2000s. Their Spotify bio even says that “no one understood how a band so un-country could be from this strange little town called Nashville,” and I’d say that’s probably a perfect way to put it.
While Paramore is still a band, Williams also has her own solo career in addition to her work with her band, and this past Friday, she released an untitled surprise album, which fans have started calling Ego, exclusively on her website, which consists 17 new songs that have since been uploaded to streaming platforms.
But one in particular stands out, not only for its very unique name but also the content in the lyrics, and that would be “Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party (EDAABP),” which references Morgan Wallen… she doesn’t say his name outright, but it’s pretty obvious when you read the line about her being the the “biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar.” It’s the very first line in the song:
“I’ll be the biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar
No use shootin’ for the moon, no use chasing waterfalls
I’m the biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar
No use shootin’ for the moon, no use chasing waterfalls”
So I guess you won’t likely ever catch her at Morgan Wallen’s This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen, which opened in 2024. So edgy, right? I mean, it’s the cool thing to do these days… take a random shot at Morgan Wallen. He seems to live rent free in some of these people’s heads, people have no connection to him, the country music industry, and many who probably never even met him. It’s almost laughable she went out of her way to put him in a song and insult him.
Whether it’s politically motivated or otherwise, it’s just lazy in my opinion… I totally understand if you’re not a fan of his music, there’s plenty of it I don’t like, but as far as I know he’s never personally done anything to Hayley so I’m not sure what gives. Every rapper and professional athlete in America seems to have no problem with him, but of course, it’s the white girl who will write a song about him being a racist. Shocked.
And if you’re thinking “well, what if she means Jason Aldean?”, the other country artist that the left-wing media loves to hate. Well, she cleared that up quickly. During an interview with Stereogum, Hayley was asked about her favorite bars on Broadway, or that are owned by a country artist, and she said “there are no good ones,” and she would “pass” on all of it because she has “beef” with all of them:
“Oh no… there’s not. There’s really no good ones. I don’t have one. My favorite country music’s artist’s establishment? Yeah, no. Pass. Hard pass to all of them. They all have terrible names, too. Like when you open a business, you don’t just put your name on it.
Like, you come up with something, right? It can have your DNA in it but I don’t understand the bars that are just peoples names. So I don’t have a favorite, but I have a lot of beef with all of them.”
I can agree with her on the fact that most of the bars on Broadway suck, a good majority of the “artist bars” are not actually owned by the artists themselves at all, but rather they license their name to companies like TC Restaurant Group, which is why they get flipped so fast or put up in a hurry. It’s all so commercialized now, and it’s really unfortunate, because it just sucks the soul out of what made Broadway so unique in the first place, but I digress…
But she was QUICK with which bar was her least favorite, which was simply “Morgan Wallen’s,” as you could have probably guessed:
@stereogum “I’ll be the biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar,” Hayley Williams sings on her excellent new song “Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party.” Maybe you are wondering what Hayley’s favorite racist country singer’s bar is? Our Nashville nightlife correspondent’s friend Shaad was wondering too. @Paramore @The Lipstick Lounge #HayleyWilliams #Nashville #nightlife #LipstickLounge #countrymusic #MorganWallen #LGBTQ #Paramore ♬ original sound – stereogum
She sounds like a lot of fun at parties… I mean, anyone who mentions “the threat of fascism” in a non-ironic way like that, I’m immediately gonna see myself out of that conversation. And honestly, the song is pretty bad, at least when I compare it to the glory days of Paramore, but you can listen and see what you think for yourself here:
