One Of Us! Peyton Manning Drilled A House Off The First Tee At The Memorial Tournament Pro-Am
On a bachelor party in Charleston, South Carolina last year, I shanked a 6-iron off the tee box on a short par 3. It dribbled into the woods and I said screw it, I’m taking a mulligan. That next shot went soaring way out of play and cracked into the side of a house; a house where the owner just so happened to be washing his car in the driveway. On a bachelor party in Charleston, South Carolina last year, I shanked a 6-iron off the tee box on a short par 3. It dribbled into the woods and I said screw it, I’m taking a mulligan. Buddy, when I tell you I bailed on that hole so fast…
The Memorial Tournament is taking place this weekend outside of Columbus, Ohio. It’s an event put on by the legendary Jack Nicklaus on a course he designed named Muirfield Village Golf Club. But before the PGA event, there’s a Pro-Am, where we get to see if athletes and other celebrities are actually any better than us out there on the links.
Peyton Manning took part in this year’s event and while his swing looked okay (admittedly I only watched this one clip) it turns out he’s just like me and a bit shaky when the pressure ‘s on.
With a crowd of people watching, including the best golfer on the face of the planet, Mr. Scottie Scheffler (who was gulping down a milkshake at 7am. Complete power move and something we need to do more of in this country) standing right behind him, Peyton tee’d it up and let it rip.
Well, he ripped it right into a house and it sounded like a 12-guage went off, the bang echoing across the course:
Scottie doubling over in laughter makes this just so much better… I can’t even imagine the feeling of completely shanking the first drive of the day, on camera, with Scottie freaking Scheffler standing behind you. Granted, it’d be a guarantee that’s exactly what I would have done (or top it about 10 feet in front of me I guess being the other option), but still, this is Peyton Manning, the man with two Super Bowl rings, 5 MVP’s, and more clutch moments than one can begin to county. He can’t shake the nerves and hit a decent drive? Makes me relate to the man more than I ever thought possible.
There’s a few great comments on the video that I just have to share:
“Tony Romo would’ve missed the house and the playoffs
Absolutely insane milkshake at 7am
Did I hear him yell Fore or was it OMAHA
I’m guessing that wasn’t playable?
Let’s see Scottie throw one pass 15 yards!
Peyton…. Peyton! You gots plenty of coin 2 go get some lessons my mate”
Now listen, I am certain that Peyton is a decent golfer. He just has to be or nothing in the world makes sense.
But I won’t pretend it doesn’t make me horrific range session the other day feel a little less worse watching him slice one into the siding of what I can only imagine to be an extremely expensive home.
Now if you don’t mind, I have some weird Instagram Reels drills to go try out which will do nothing other than further bungle my swing.
