The ex-girlfriend of Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez, and the mother of his son, has broken her silence on the former NFL quarterback’s recent arrest after a bizarre incident in Indianapolis last weekend.
On October 4, the 38-year old Sanchez was arrested after being stabbed in a bizarre altercation in Indianapolis, where the broadcaster was in town to call the game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders.
Initially, it was reported that Sanchez was the victim of a stabbing, with Fox Sports releasing a statement shortly after the incident:
“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition. We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
But it quickly became apparent that there was more to the story.
According to FOX59 out of Indiana, the police report stated that Sanchez was initially uncooperative when officers arrived on the scene, and that the altercation may have started when the former NFL quarterback confronted a food delivery driver. The man reported that Sanchez then began threatening and following him before ultimately attacking him.
The delivery driver reportedly tried to use pepper spray, but when that didn’t work he says he defended himself with a knife. The police report noted that both men were injured, with the delivery driver having a significant injury to his face.
And shortly after it was revealed that Sanchez had been stabbed, the Indianapolis police announced that they had arrested the Fox Sports analyst for several charges, including battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all misdemeanors:
“After further investigation and following consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, IMPD arrested 38-year-old Mark Sanchez for his alleged role in this incident.
Sanchez was arrested at the hospital for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all which are misdemeanors.
All involved parties have been identified, and no further individuals are being sought by detectives.
Sanchez is still in the hospital and has not been booked into the Adult Detention Center.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision. An arrest is merely an accusation, and Sanchez should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
IMPD does not release probable cause affidavits. Those must be obtained from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office or Marion County Clerk’s Office.”
We’ve since learned more about what happened leading up to Sanchez’s arrest. According to court documents, Sanchez confronted the 69-year old man who had parked his work truck at a loading dock to collect used cooking oil from a restaurant. Video then allegedly shows the former NFL quarterback throwing the man into an alleyway before the victim reportedly attempted to pepper spray Sanchez. When that didn’t work, he pulled out a knife and reportedly stabbed the Fox Sports personality two or three times.
Sanchez reportedly left the scene and was initially uncooperative with police.
The delivery driver, meanwhile, suffered severe injuries in the altercation and was taken to the hospital, where he has since been released. But gruesome photos obtained by Fox 59 show just how bad his injuries were, including a laceration through his cheek.
The charges were upgraded a few days after his arrest, with Sanchez now facing a felony charge of battery involving serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony in the state of Indiana with a potential sentence of 1-6 years in prison.
Sanchez was released from this hospital this past weekend, breaking his silence to thank the surgeon for saving his life but otherwise being unable to comment on the incident.
His ex, however, had plenty to say.
Bobby T, a model whose real name is Erin Campaneris, shares a son named Daniel with the former NFL quarterback. And on Sunday, she posted a lengthy statement to Instagram revealing that she found out about the incident the same way everybody else did – and that it doesn’t surprise her:
“I am aware of the serious criminal charges currently facing my son’s father, Mark Sanchez. My foremost priority has always been, and remains, our eight year old son, Daniel. I chose to remain silent publicly to protect Daniel.
Now that everything is out in the open, my focus hasn’t changed. I have always been concerned for his safety and what he is exposed to. Sadly, none of this is surprising to me.
Like everyone else, I learned of the horrific event through a news alert on my phone while sitting next to Daniel. I still know only what is publicly available.
My thoughts and empathy are with the victim and everyone affected by this devastating event. It has created a wide ripple effect, touching many lives.
I understand that we live in a very public world, but my hope is that as my son grows, he can be seen and understood apart from this story.
At the end of the day, I’m simply a mama to a very sweet young boy doing my best to protect his peace. Thank you for the compassion so many have shown toward Daniel and me.”
After being released from the hospital, Sanchez was booked and released from the the Marion County Jail. His next court hearing is a pretrial conference on November 5, though it’s unclear whether Sanchez will have to attend that one in person. The post “None Of This Is Surprising To Me” – Mother Of Mark Sanchez’s Son Releases Statement On His Stabbing & Arrest first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
