Did Zach Top finally reveal who his real father is?
Believe it or not, there have been so many, “Who is the real father of Zach Top?” conversations in 2025 that we might need Maury to get involved to tell us the answer once and for all with a live, over-the-top paternity test reveal. The ball really got rolling earlier this year when a Canadian radio station host named Docc Andrews (of 93.7 JR Country) presented a conspiracy theory that Zach Top was Alan Jackson’s son.
Country music fans know that the Washington native has a sound reminiscent of the classic ’90s country twang that Jackson is known for, so the theory wasn’t too far-fetched. And Andrews really did his research, even giving a compelling case that Top might have been conceived after Jackson played the Tacoma Dome, roughly 9 months before Top was born. There’s certainly an interesting and entertaining argument there in support of Zach Top being the second coming of Alan Jackson.
But as it turns out (read this next part in Maury’s voice), Alan Jackson is not the father.
Zach Top actually shared who his dad is – or at least who claims to be his father – in the latest episode of the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast. Hosts Taylor Lewan and Will Compton welcomed the rising country star to their show, and the over-three-hour-long episode covered all kinds of different topics, like how Nashville was initially intimidating for the “Sounds Like The Radio” singer, and how sports have always played a big role in Top’s life.
The country music artist explained that he’s a huge fan of football, and that once that long season is over, he switches his focus over to golf. Top says he enjoys how peaceful golf broadcasts are, and that he’s even become friends with current and former professional golfers.
He name dropped a pro by the name of Chandler Phillips, who is currently a PGA Tour player. Then he went on to also name drop another golfer with legend status when he was talking about how his career in music has gotten him connections in other industries:
“I don’t think I ever really thought of that when I was trying to make it in music, but that’s one of the most fun things to me now is how the entertainment world and the sports world combine very quickly. It’s bada**. Like, I’m buddies with John Daly now. It’s insane.”
Host Taylor Lewan followed up that tidbit with a question about Zach’s favorite thing that he’s gained access to since skyrocketing into country music stardom. Since Zach Top never lies (thanks, I’ll be here all week), he admitted that his blossoming friendship with John Daly probably takes the cake.
Though I’m not sure he would describe John Daly as a friend more than he would… a father figure:
“That’s probably it. John Daly Face-timing me every few days… he’ll just be in a bar drunk somewhere and my song comes on or something and he just calls me up and he’s like, ‘Hey.’ He calls me son. He’s like, ‘Hey son, what are you doing?’
I just go, ‘I don’t know, about to get on stage.’ He’s like, ‘Well, just wanted to let you know your dad loves you. I’ll talk to you later.’ It’s like, ‘That’s what I needed to hear before this show.’ It’s the best.”
There you have it. Put the conspiracy to rest. John Daly is Zach Top’s father.
If only that were true, though it is hilarious to hear that the legendary pro golfer – known for throwing back Diet Cokes and alcohol and smoking an inordinate amount of cigarettes – has basically adopted the young country music artist as his son. It seems as though Top doesn’t mind Daly’s drunk FaceTimes at all… and if that doesn’t scream “healthy father-son relationship,” I don’t know what does.
