A massive debut for Morgan Wallen, to put it mildly.

Today, Billboard announced that Morgan’s I’m the Problem album, which was released last Friday, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, making it the year’s biggest week for any album so far in terms of unit sales, as he earned 493,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending May 22, according to Luminate. It also easily lands the largest streaming week for any album in 2025, and he secured that stat in the very first day it was out.

We knew the numbers would be huge, but the fact that he moved almost half a million units in the first week is unprecedented in the country genre, and the only other person coming close to him right now in music in general is Taylor Swift, who moved over two million units in the debut week of her most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department.

I’m The Problem is Morgan’s third #1 for Wallen on the Billboard 200, following One Thing at a Time in 2023 (19 nonconsecutive weeks at the top) and Dangerous: The Double Album in 2021 (10 consecutive weeks at #1). Both of those albums also debuted at #1 and have never left the weekly top 50 of the chart, which is just incredible, and obviously the new record will likely follow suit and will probably remain on that chart indefinitely.

I’m The Problem came in at a lengthy 37-songs that includes features from fellow country artists Eric Church, Ernest and Hardy, as well as Morgan’s first major collaboration with a female artist with Canadian pop star Tate McRae on a duet called “What I Want.”

I have a lot of thoughts about it you can read HERE, but of course, this is already proving to be his biggest project yet, and somehow, he keeps managing to make it each one bigger and more successful. I personally believe it could’ve been narrowed down to a solid 14 songs, and that would’ve made it hard to argue that it wasn’t country, or at the very least, that it wasn’t good. Putting out almost 40 songs is great for boosting numbers and sales in 2025, but it’s also a great way to water down what could’ve been an otherwise really solid record.

The title of the album, which implies that he’s “the problem” in many aspects of his life, definitely comes through in the songwriting. It seems like the over-arching theme of the record (as difficult as it is to have one when there is 37 songs on it) is Morgan coming to grips with his own mistakes. Almost dwelling on them. He takes the blame, looks within, and makes no bones about the fact that he’s an imperfect man in an imperfect world, who struggles just like everyone else. The point of an album is to make a statement and tell a story, which I believe he does here, however long, and extremely unnecessary, certain parts of it may be.

Overall, it’s really the production that just doesn’t work for me. I know people love his music, I know it’s catchy and fun, and I can understand why he’s captured the heart of different folks all across America. But I just want more country from Morgan Wallen and less beats, less drum machines, less pop and hip hop influence. It’s that simple for me.

I have had several songs on repeat, though, and I’ll leave them below in case you’re still sifting through it, or trying to find the mental capacity to do so…

“Number 3 and Number 7”

“I Got Better”

“The Dealer”
