“MY NAME IS…”

This weekend, Morgan Wallen hit the stage in the Buckeye State for a pair of shows on Friday, August 15, and Saturday, August 16. Wallen will take over Huntington Bank Field for the two nights, with Miranda Lambert, Gavin Adcock, and Zach John King featured as openers on Friday, and Thomas Rhett, Gavin Adcock, and Zach John King as the openers the following night.

Between the two nights, the country music faithful will show out in masses. No, literally, because there is an expected 100,000 collective fans in attendance between the two nights.

Ahead of last night’s first show of the weekend, we at Whiskey Riff threw out some bets as to who the “Just In Case” singer might walk out with as he makes his way to the stage. But with th4 Cleveland Browns in Philly for pre-season football, it was gonna be tough to find a local.

As we know, Wallen’s walkout has become just as important as the concert itself. We’ve seen countless viral moments created already on the I’m The Problem Tour just by Morgan having the likes of Brett Favre, the Houston icon Mattress Mack, and Drake walk out with him at different concerts. On previous tours, the list of famed faces he’s been joined by includes the late, great Hulk Hogan.

No matter where Morgan Wallen is, fans expect to get a surprise of a lifetime during his walkout.

Just like we were on the edge of our seats, ready to see who Morgan Wallen brought out during last night’s performance, fans attending the show were in the same boat, with hundreds of fans camping outside Huntington Field for hours before the entry gates opened, excited to see what Wallen had up his sleeve.

Typically, the high-profile figures who help with the walkout have some connection to the area, which got us thinking that potential walk out guests could include Machine Gun Kelly or the Kelce Brothers, just to name a few. But during night one of the show, he threw fans a curveball and brought a little bit of Michigan to Ohio.

The Detroit Cowboy himself joined Morgan Wallen for his famed walk out.

Of course, Kid Rock (whose real name is Bob Ritchie) brought a little of his flair to the event, showing up in a large fur coat that has “Cowboy” written across the back before shedding the hot layer to reveal his signature white tank top. Morgan Wallen also looks the part for his patriotic guest, sporting a cut-off jean button-down with patches of the American flag over his shoulders.

This moment was truly a long time coming between these two.

Long ago, before Morgan Wallen was well… Morgan Wallen, he had sent Kid Rock a demo tape, hoping to gain his attention, and it did.

Morgan Wallen Demo

Morgan Wallen got his start on The Voice back in 2014 and released his debut album, If I Know Me, in 2017. The album went to #1 on the charts, and the lead single “The Way I Talk” was a minor hit at the time, but Morgan didn’t really become a superstar until the release of his Dangerous: The Double Album in 2020.

So when Kid Rock got a demo of a song a few years ago, he was impressed by the voice – but didn’t recognize the future country superstar who was singing it.

Ol’ Bob Ritchie sat down with Bill Maher for an episode of his Club Random podcast earlier this year, and as it turns out, Maher is actually a pretty big fan of Kid Rock’s music (not so much his politics, but hey, you win some and you lose some).

During their conversation, Maher brought up Kid Rock’s song “Still Somethin’” from his 2022 album Bad Reputation:

“That evocation of that time in your life, the one about you’re in the second row, with your girl on your shoulders, all that stuff, that…”

Well, as it turns out, that song was actually written by Morgan Wallen and Mitchell Tenpenny, along with Kid Rock, Andy Albert, and Jordan Schmidt. Rock wasn’t involved in the original writing of the song, but he was sent a demo tape asking him to record it – and the demo was performed by a then-relatively unknown Morgan Wallen.

Kid Rock says that he didn’t recognize the voice on the demo, but was immediately impressed by Wallen’s vocals:

“This is before Morgan Wallen blew up. I remember somehow I got a demo of it, I can’t remember what, and I just couldn’t get over the voice on it.

I was like, ‘Who the f*** is singing this demo?’ It was Morgan Wallen.”

Bob says that he then reworked the song before recording it, but he’s since become good friends with Wallen. (Remember back in 2020 when Morgan was arrested at Kid Rock’s Nashville bar for breaking a glass?)

Obviously, these days, any artist would probably instantly recognize a demo sung by Morgan Wallen. But back then, Morgan was still relatively unknown – though ironically, he had become a global superstar by the time Kid Rock recorded and released “Still Somethin’” in 2022.
