Another benefit concert in the works.
The country music community has Texas on its mind. With the South and Central Texas communities being a little over a week removed from the catastrophic 4th of July flooding, the total death toll climbs past 130, families are grieving loved ones, and are hoping that recovery efforts can find those still missing.
As the communities assess the damage and determine what is needed to rebuild and come back stronger, they are not doing it alone. Immediately after the floods, many individuals in the country music community stepped up to the plate, pledging their assistance or launching fundraisers to aid those in need. Robert Earl Keen was one of the first artists to announce a benefit concert for the city of Kerrville, and since his announcement, many more artists have stepped up to the plate.
George Strait announced an intimate benefit show that will feature performances from William Beckmann, Ray Benson, Wade Bowen, Dean Dillon, Riley Green, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, Kyle Park, Hudson Westbrook, and members of George’s legendary Ace in the Hole Band. Additionally, Josh Weathers has already raised an astonishing $430,000 for flood victims with a virtual benefit show just 48 hours after the flood.
It’s incredible work these folks are doing for the Lone Star State.
And there are still more being added to the list for their contributions. Most recently, Miranda Lambert announced that she would be planning a benefit show to support her home state as well. During a recent call-in to Highway Mornings on SiriusXM, Lambert becomes emotional while discussing the impact of the flood on her fellow Texans and unveils her plan to support them.
“I know more than anything that Texans help Texans. I’m working on more things to come; hopefully, next week, (I’m) announcing some things I’m trying to do to help.
I know a ton of my artist friends are putting together benefits to rally around the music industry and just sort of highlight these families and provide what we can provide for them. You know, financially and anything else…”
Host Cody Alan then asks Lambert if she was planning on putting on a benefit show as well, to which she replies:
“Yes. We are working on putting some stuff together, too.”
She later adds that there are not many details surrounding her benefit yet because she and her team have just begun the process.
“I can’t talk about it yet because it’s literally just happening.”
Lambert shared with Alan that she hopes to reconnect with him next week to provide more details and share what she has in store.
MuttNation Foundation Launches Fundraiser To Help Animals Impacted By Texas Floods
Lambert is going above and beyond for her home state with this announcement. Right after the floods, Lambert shared that MuttNation Foundation (her 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization) was putting together a fundraiser to support shelters and animals in need.
“Hey y’all, I just want to jump on here and say how devastated we are to hear about the floods in South and Central Texas. I can’t even come up with any words for the loss that everybody’s suffering. MuttNation Foundation is working really closely with Kerrville Pets Alive as we speak to try and get more info and figure out where the needs are to support the pet community and pet owners in this disaster.
We will have more info as it goes, but I will post what I know to post right now. So y’all join with us and try to help out as much as you can, and keep sending prayers, and I’ll keep you posted.”
Lambert and the MuttNation Foundation launched a fundraiser, which will be donated to various shelters and pet rescue organizations in the area, and have raised close to $20,000.
Lambert and MuttNation also shared resources to help animals impacted by the Hill Country floods, including where to donate or drop off food, as well as local organizations seeking volunteers.
“Thank you to everyone who has joined us in supporting Texas. Here are some ways to continue helping.”
