The countdown can begin.
The beloved Taylor Sheridan show Landman, which follows Tommy Norris, a crisis manager for a Texas-based oil company, MTex Oil. Taylor Sheridan struck gold with the creation of this show, with fans falling in love with Billy Bob Thornton’s character and the wacky family dynamics he highlights. However, that was just one of the reasons fans loved the show. The plot of showcasing a crisis manager gave viewers an inside look into an industry that the general public is not familiar with.
It’s the same way Yellowstone captured America’s heart, showcasing an industry vital to our well-being. Just as we need ranchers to be fed, we need oil field workers to keep our cars running, along with many other essential services.
After the tense season one finale, the future of MTex Oil was uncertain following the death of their fearless leader, Monty, played by John Hamm, and the introduction of the drug kingpin Galliano, played by Andy Garcia. After Monty’s death due to a heart attack, Tommy Norris is tagged as the new executive for the company. With the cartel’s kingpin entering the finale as well, it sets up the possibility that they will have a stake in MTex Oil this next season, or Norris will organize some mutually beneficial agreement for both the cartel and the oil company.
So, fans were eager to see what season two has in store. After the show was renewed for a second season, it was announced that November of 2025 would be the release date. But then it was announced that they had been delayed and that December 2025 was the new projection. However, today, the official premiere date for season two was revealed, and the show is moving ahead of schedule.
“Let the countdown to season 2 begin! We’ll see you Nov. 16th, only on Paramount+.”
LET’S GO.
From the show clip associated with the premiere date, it appears that this season will be a pressure cooker of problems, and, of course, I’m sure there will be some family drama sprinkled in there.
It will also be interesting to see how Tommy Norris fills Monty’s shoes in his new role. However, given that Tommy Norris is rougher around the edges, it makes one wonder how he will fit in the boardroom. Also, Sam Elliott is set to star in Season 2, and I’m sure we’ll get a lot more from Andy Garcia.
Ahead of the season two premiere, Landman‘s co-creator and executive producer spilled some secrets about the upcoming season in a recent interview with TV Line. Wallace tells fans to think about what Tommy Norris enjoys about the job and consider how he can incorporate that fieldwork into his new role.
“Well, the thing about Tommy is: He likes the guys. He likes being involved in the day-to-day operations, at least to an extent. There are some days that I think he wishes he could never look at another pumpjack again. But it’s also part of what’s in his blood and what drives him to get up every day.
In this new role, he clearly will have to spend more time in boardrooms and at fancy dinners. I think you can take Tommy out of the patch to an extent, but not fully.”
It sounds like Billy Bob Thornton knows that his character will be in and out of the oil fields still, telling TV Line at the end of season one:
“Tommy is never going to get the landman out of him. I mean, that’s who he is. He does not want to be an executive guy. I don’t think he wants to be in the suit, but I believe he’ll do whatever it takes.”
I, too, believe that Tommy Norris will do whatever is required to get the job done and to keep the MTex Oil field workers safe. A lot will unfold this season, and I am thrilled that we are getting it a little sooner than expected. November 16th can’t come soon enough.
