That’s…certainly a take.

There have been a lot of wild takes flying around as tensions rise in Los Angeles over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations to track down and arrest those who are in the country illegally. Over the weekend, protests turned violent after anti-ICE activists began throwing rocks at law enforcement and attempting to prevent them from making arrests.

The escalation prompted President Donald Trump to send the National Guard to LA to assist in keeping the peace and protecting federal buildings, a move that angered not only the rioters but also California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

In the past few days, LAPD has had problems containing the violent protests, with videos from the scene showing cars being burned and demonstrators throwing projectiles and fireworks at law enforcement. And video circulating yesterday appeared to show someone passing out large numbers of gas masks to demonstrators, causing many online to speculate that these riots aren’t a result of organic protests but are well-funded, coordinated operations designed to cause unrest and violence.

Things further escalated last night, as videos circulated of rioters looting several businesses in Los Angeles, including a sushi shop and an Apple Store. And Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth have now announced that they will be sending in United States Marines to help bring the situation under control.

Yeah, it’s not great.

Well country singer Kacey Musgraves has also sparked some backlash with her comments on the whole situation, taking to social media to give her thoughts:

“If protesters can’t wear masks ICE shouldn’t be able to either”

Of course her comments echo those of some Democrats who claim that ICE agents shouldn’t be allowed to wear masks while conducting raids. But they also come at a time when several ICE agents have been doxxed and threatened after their identities and faces were made public, something that Acting ICE Chief Todd Lyons has said puts their safety in jeopardy:

“People are out there taking photos of the names, their faces, and posting them online with death threats to their family and themselves.”

But also: It seems like most of the protestors ARE wearing masks?

Well critics quickly took to social media to respond to Kacey’s suggestion that ICE agents shouldn’t be wearing masks:

“Protesters are breaking the law anonymity is not allowed. Law enforcement are enforcing the law, and they and their families must be safeguarded. There’s a big difference!”

“Why are the protesters wearing mask anyway?”

“As soon as you can guarantee those on YOUR side of the political aisle won’t doxx or go after family members of these Federal Agents I am all in.”

“Democrats struggle distinguishing between those BREAKING the LAW and those ENFORCING the LAW.”

“Maybe if people weren’t doxxing law enforcement they wouldn’t have to”

“If their intent is to peacefully protest, why do they need to wear masks?”

“You’re defending looters and rioters? wtf is wrong with you.”

“This is so stupid. No. Believe it or not, the people setting cars on fire and the people arresting the people setting cars on fire are not peers”

“ICE agents and law enforcement officers are literally having fireworks and rocks thrown at them because of people like you who condone violence and breaking our laws.”

Obviously the whole thing is a tense situation with passionate views on each side. But hopefully cooler heads can prevail and we can see an end to the rioting, looting and violence sooner rather than later. The post Kacey Musgraves Sparks Backlash With Claim That “If Protestors Can’t Wear Masks” ICE Agents Shouldn’t Be Allowed To Wear Them Either first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
