Is Morgan Wallen’s “Miami” Remix With Lil Wayne & Rick Ross Actually Better Than The Solo Version?

Believe it or not, I like this version better than the original…
I mean, I hated the original, so it’s a low bar, but that’s my two cents for whatever it’s worth.
Today, Morgan Wallen released the remix of his song “Miami,” which was of course featured on his recent I’m The Problem album, and got some treatment from rappers Lil Wayne and Rick Ross on this new version.
The song initially received quite a bit of criticism from fans due to the fact that it interpolated Keith Whitley’s classic, and it still has some of the lowest streaming numbers out of all 37 songs on the record. I personally wasn’t a fan of it, but I do love Lil Wayne, so I must say that I didn’t completely hate the idea of the collaborating. Do I wish it would’ve been on a different song? Obviously. A totally new original would’ve been way more intriguing, but it is what it is…
On Theo Von’s podcast a few months ago, Morgan said they mulled over the idea of a rap feature on it, and ultimately they opted to go solo and just position it for a remix to come in the future, so it seems as it was always his plan to come up with something like this specifically for this song:
“I got a song on my record called ‘Miami.’ It’s a Keith Whitley flip… that’s one of his bigger songs, I guess. But we flipped it and turned it into more of a rap style. But it’s cool, I like it.
It seemed like it could use rapper on there, but I didn’t end up using a feature, we ended up just making a second verse. But it’s one of those songs that it wouldn’t be surprising if we got a remix and did that once it’s out.”
The fans who love Morgan seem to love it already and I’ve seen a lot of positive comments from them, and his haters are taking him over the coals like they did when “Miami” first came out. But considering how big Morgan’s star is right now, it’s pretty interesting to see legends like Lil Wayne come over to country and get in on what’s going on in the genre considering its current popularity.
Like I said, I have always been a huge fan of Lil Wayne (he was the guy when I was in school, okay…) and so I’m always going to be excited when he comes out with new music or is featured on something. Morgan has a ton of rap and hip hop influences in his music, so them working together actually makes a lot of sense. My only complaint is that the great Keith Whitley is attached to it, and that’s pretty much where I stand on it. But at the same time, his son Jesse Keith didn’t have a problem with it, so who am I to care?
With three such huge, recognizable names, it’s likely this will be a huge crossover hit, regardless of how “good” it actually is… and I don’t think it will take very long for that to happen.
