Not big on school, eh?

Morgan Wallen was a star athlete back in high school, pitching and playing shortstop for the baseball team during his time at Gibbs High School in Knox County, Tennessee. He had hoped to continue on with baseball in college, and was attracting attention from coaches and scouts, but ultimately a torn ligament before his senior year ended up cutting his baseball career short.

And like most athletes, it seems like Morgan wasn’t too big on his classes. (In the words of Cardale Jones, he ain’t come here to play school).

A former classmate of Morgan’s, whose mother also happened to be his English teacher, recently shared the hilarious message that the future country music star wrote in his teacher’s yearbook. And apparently hers was one of the only classes he didn’t mind:

“I had fun in your class and I never say that so feel special.

You are a great teacher and I learned a lot. I think I’ll test out of college English now. Have a great summer and I’m sure I’ll see you at the ballfield.”

She also shared the message that Morgan’s sister, Ashlyne Wallen, wrote in her own yearbook, which caught Ashlyne’s attention and re-connected the former high school classmates in the comments of the video. (The classmate clarified that Morgan was two years older than her, so she was closer to his sister than she was with the country singer).

It’s safe to say things worked out pretty well for him though. The 32-year old is the biggest country star in the world: He’s got the #1 album of any genre, is dominating at country radio, and is currently on a stadium tour selling out two nights in every city he rolls through.

In fact, Morgan is so big that he doesn’t even have to worry about awards shows.

Of course the hitmaker is the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year. But Morgan wasn’t in attendance at the show to accept the award last year, and hasn’t acknowledged it other than posting a picture of the trophy to a photo dump on Instagram.

It was reported yesterday by Hits Daily Double that Morgan Wallen is NOT submitting his chart-topping album I’m The Problem for Grammy consideration.

Per the outlet:

“Sources in the 615 tell us that Morgan Wallen has elected not to submit his chart-topping album ‘I’m the Problem’ (Big Loud/Mercury/Republic)—far and away the biggest release of the year—for Grammy consideration.

The Academy’s gatekeepers, you’ll recall, have never been particularly receptive to Wallen, though those who ought to know tell us there was no rancor in the decision, which they described as a measured ‘No, thank you.'”

And honestly, why would he? They’re not going to give him the award, and he clearly doesn’t care either way. It’s not hurting his career, it wouldn’t help his career if he won, and awards shows are more and more becoming self-indulgent affairs for artists and the music industry to pat each other on the back instead of actually reflecting the quality of the art that’s recognized.

(Sorry, couldn’t help myself there).

Anyway, it seems Morgan eventually found his place right where he’s supposed to be – and he at least enjoyed one class along the way.The post High School Classmate Of Morgan Wallen Shares Hilarious Message He Wrote In His Teacher’s Yearbook first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
