Fenway Park Concert Featuring Jason Aldean, Brooks & Dunn Canceled At Last Minute

The Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn concert at Fenway Park was a swing and a miss.

For months, the anticipation has been building for the mega country music concert featuring the likes of Aldean and Brooks & Dunn. The event that was set to take place at the historic home of the Boston Red Sox was announced back in January, and country music fans were over the moon about getting to see the legendary country music duo along with the “Big Green Tractor” singer.

Then they got their hearts ripped out when it was announced – without much warning – that the concert was no more.

The official social media account for Fenway Park posted the cancellation message earlier this afternoon, saying that both the Shakira concert scheduled for May 29 (tonight) and the Jason Aldean/Brooks & Dunn show on May 30 had been canceled:

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Shakira and Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn performances originally scheduled for May 29th and May 30th respectively at Fenway Park have been canceled. Refunds will be available at your point of convenience. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Though it’s unfortunate that Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn ticket holders were only given about a day’s notice of the cancellation, Shakira fans were only notified a few hours before the concert was set to begin.

TMZ is reporting that the “unforeseen circumstance” was actually an issue with the stage that was built-out in the baseball stadium. There was some speculation that security or weather concerns were the culprit of cancellation, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Instead, the crews that were in charge of the stage didn’t believe the stage was ready to move forward with the back-to-back nights of shows.

Apparently Boston Inspectional Services had the final word on whether or not the concert could move forward, and during a pre-concert check, they identified structural elements of the stage that were not up to proper code and safety standards. So the Shakira concert tonight, and the jam-packed country music show tomorrow, were called off.

Fans that were traveling to the Boston area specifically for the concert are understandably upset with the late cancellation. Evidently, the Fenway Park show was a bit of a destination concert, which means that many fans made the trip to Massachusetts for… nothing. Live Nation has instructed those who bought tickets to return to the site they bought from for refunds.

But a ticket refund won’t help the people that traveled to “Beantown” for the weekend, as you can see below:
