Don’t be blue, just throw on your “Blue Cowboy Boots.”

There are really two kinds of breakup songs in country music. There’s the cryin’ in your beer heartbreakers, and then there are the defiant, get-back-on-the-horse and win the day kind of songs.

And Karen Waldrup definitely isn’t crying in her beer with her latest song.

“Blue Cowboy Boots” finds Waldrup at the end of a dead-end relationship, but rather than feeling sorry for herself and worrying about what might have been, she’s throwing on her boots and hitting the hardwood:

“Ain’t ridin’ in your rodeo
Boy I’ve had enough
The bull you been givin’ me
Ain’t nothin’ close to love
Tired of lying here awake
I’m takin’ back my heart
Headin’ for a whiskey break
and dressin’ for the part…Gettin’ on my…

Blue cowboy boots
Blue’s the mood I’m in right now
In my blue cowboy boots
I won’t be blue for long,
Bartender bring it on
Want’a dance to every song
in my feel good blue – blue cowboy boots”

The song, which was co-written by Ed Hill, is a honky tonk twanger that’s perfectly highlighted by Waldrup’s powerful voice and infectious sound.

Speaking on the new single, Waldrup said:

“It feels good putting a dead-end relationship behind you. The word “blue” isn’t about regret but rather about freedom. Rodeo, cowboy lingo is fun! It feels good putting on your favorite boots and gettin’ happy. The energy is infectious!”

And we’re pumped to bring you the exclusive first listen of the track that drops everywhere tonight:

If you’re not familiar with Waldrup, the country music newcomer was a finalist on season 25 of The Voice, wowing not only the coaches but America with powerful performances of songs like “Stay” by Sugarland and the Lee Ann Womack classic “I Hope You Dance.”

She’s also a recording machine, releasing 7 studio albums and over 50 songs already, including recent singles like “Louisiana Hurricane” and “Fix It.”

And along with her new single, Waldrup has also teamed up with Wet Kiss Boots for a collaboration with her own limited edition signature “Karen Waldrup – Blue Cowboy Boots.”

Speaking on having her own line of cowboy boots, Waldrup says the opportunity is something she’s always dreamed of:

“I have always dreamed of having my own global Waldrup Boot Collaboration and I am so thankful that God blessed me with my friends at Wet Kiss Boots to create the perfect boot for our NEW song Blue Cowboy Boots! You’re not Blue anymore when you’re wearing Blue Cowboy Boots. I know because I have been wearing Blue Cowboy Boots for over a year now.

I love that the boots have my KW logo on the side and a stitched WW on each boot across the front representing my friends all over the world that love and support my music…Waldrup Worldwide. I made these boots for them- just in time for Summer 2025 & I can’t wait to see everyone in their “feel good blue… blue cowboy Boots.”

New boots and a new single, just in time for summer. The post EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: ‘The Voice’ Alum Karen Waldrup’s Triumphant New Breakup Anthem “Blue Cowboy Boots” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
