Let’s face it — when you have a band that features Corrosion of Conformity’s Pepper Keenan and Crowbar’s Kirk Windstein on guitars, you’ve got an impressive riff factory. Both of those gentlemen know how to write some killer riffs, so it should come as no surprise that when it came time to tease some new music from Down, they’d highlight a tasty riff played at the studio.

Down has been working on their full-length follow up to 2012’s Down IV – Part I for a while now, but it was only recently that they entered OCD Recording in Metairie, Louisiana to officially begin tracking the guitars for said album. As of right now, that’s all we know, since the album has yet to be officially announced either by the band or anyone at their new label home, Nuclear Blast Records.

In addition to the riff clip, the band posted several photos from their recording sessions. I imagine getting these guys in the studio at the same time’s gotta be an almost Herculean feat. I mean, you’ve got dudes that are scattered to the wind with their various projects. Keenan’s busy working on a Corrosion of Conformity record, Windstein’s got the Sun Dont Shine release on his plate, and vocalist Phil Anselmo’s been fronting the Pantera tribute act for a long ass time at this point.

I don’t know about you guys, but I for one am stoked to hear new Down soon. Here’s hoping we actually get it this time and it doesn’t go the way of that supposed covers album or their all acoustic EP. I wonder what happened to those…
