Did You Know Stephen Wilson Jr. Is Married To Sixpence None The Richer Lead Singer Leigh Nash?

Lotta talent in that household.

Stephen Wilson Jr. had a breakout moment at the CMA Awards last week, when he delivered one of the best moments of the night with his chill-inducing performance of “Stand By Me.”

The 46-year old former scientist also is one of the most interesting people in country music right now. He grew up boxing as a kid, following in the footsteps of his father, but fell in love with songwriting at a young age. He was briefly in a band, but then left and took a job as a food scientist for Mars, Inc. before finally leaving to pursue his career as a songwriter.

Wilson signed a deal with Big Loud and released his debut album søn of dad back in 2023. The album was inspired by Wilson’s father, who passed away in 2018, and showcases his talent for songwriting as he navigates the feelings of grief that come with losing somebody so important to you.

I was lucky enough to see SWJ three nights in a row when he opened up for Eric Church at Red Rocks this summer, and while I was already a fan, I walked away not only in love with his sound and his music but fascinated by his story. He’s truly one of my most listened-to artists of the year, and I couldn’t be happier to see him getting the attention he deserves right now.

But to add to his fascinating story, did you know that he’s also married to a Grammy-nominated singer?

Stephen Wilson Jr.’s wife is Leigh Nash, the lead singer of alternative rock band Sixpence None the Richer. The group was formed in the 1990s when Nash was only 16 years old, and had their breakout hit with “Kiss Me” in 1998 (I know you’ve heard it, even if you think you haven’t). They followed it up with a cover of “There She Goes” that became their second top 10 hit in 1999.

The group’s self-titled album was nominated for a Grammy for Best Gospel Rock Album in 1999, and “Kiss Me” was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 2000.

The couple were married in 2011, and in 2021 opened up on struggles they’ve faced in their marriage with their 2021 duet “Made For This.”

At the time, Nash spoke on the challenges that the pandemic presented in their relationship:

“We fight a lot, and I think for a lot of couples, this past year was a real test. Obviously, people were cooped up together, so it’s gonna go one way or the other, but I think we did really well. We are a couple that’s the same in a lot of ways, but really different. Plus, we’re also in the same business, so I think that can sometimes cause friction.”

Pretty sure everybody can relate to that.

Regardless of whatever they’ve faced in the past, the couple is still going strong, with Nash not only releasing solo music but also still leading Sixpence None the Richer. And last night at the Ryman Auditorium, she even joined her husband onstage during his headlining show where they debuted a new song together:
