Connor Treacy spent years orchestrating events and musical journeys from the shadows as a manager at Interscope, helping craft the sonic trajectories of Dua Lipa and Yungblud. After helping build the careers that now soundtrack our commutes and heartbreaks, he is now twisting the knife into his own career as a dance music producer.
With his new EP Contactee, which he executive produced alongside RocMan, Treacy guided the project’s creative vision, from curating a reference playlist and BPM ranges to securing its featured vocalists, while collaborating closely on the production process. Following 2024’s Moments Between Thoughts, the three-track EP feels like someone finally letting themselves be heard after years of amplifying others.
The opening track “Give It Away” tackles the complexities of modern romance as Maxine Ashley delivers lines about being “too comfortable, too vulnerable” over production that practically sparkles with dopamine. Treacy wraps her confessions in such effervescent pop-house that you almost miss how devastating her plea sounds: begging someone not to share their intimacy with anyone else while knowing you’ve already lost control of the situation.
“Believe in Love” shifts into lounge territory as Treacy demonstrates his range, proving he’s absorbed more than just pop sensibilities during his UMG tenure. Here, HAWA’s vocals navigate that treacherous middle ground between cynicism and hope as slinky organ strikes punctuate her moments of doubt. The kinetic house rhythm keeps pulling her forward, mirroring the gnawing tension between wanting to trust and knowing better. It’s the sound of someone who’s been burned enough times to recognize the warning signs yet still finds themselves reaching for the flame.
Contactee closes with the hip-pop track “EAT,” which abandons all pretense of emotional complexity for pure, unapologetic bravado. Sonyaé’s verses about devouring competitors feel like the natural endpoint of an EP that began with vulnerability: sometimes survival means consuming everything in your path.
The EP’s production was handled in close collaboration with RocMan, bringing Treacy’s concepts to life. You can listen to Contactee below.
