Cleveland Browns Third-String QB Shedeur Sanders Says He’s Better Than Some Starting Quarterbacks In The NFL
Got anybody particular in mind? We’re onto week four of the 2025 NFL season, so by now fans have a pretty good idea of what kind of season their team is in for. We’re onto week four of the 2025 NFL season, so by now fans have a pretty good idea of what kind of season their team is in for. If you’re a Buffalo Bills or a Philadelphia Eagles fan, you’re probably feeling pretty good right now. But I’m a New Orleans Saints fan myself, so I’ve already given up on any hope of being decent this season. It’s going to be a disaster, and I’ve accepted it, because the alternative is to gaslight myself and end up ruining every single Sunday between now and January. No thanks.
We’ve also seen a ton of injuries from quarterbacks already in 2024. Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow is out for most of the season with turf toe, the Washington Commanders lost Jayden Daniels to a knee injury last week, Brock Purdy has been out since week 2 with injuries to both his shoulder and his toe, JJ McCarthy is sidelined for 2 to 4 weeks for the Minnesota Vikings…it’s been rough out there for quarterbacks, which has forced a lot of backups into starting games early in the season.
And Shedeur Sanders believes he should be out there starting games too.
The Cleveland Browns are having a pretty typical start to the season for the Browns. They’re 1-2 after losses to the Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens and a somewhat surprising win over the Green Bay Packers. Quarterback Joe Flacco has been…well, about what you’d expect from Joe Flacco. He’s thrown two touchdowns and four interceptions, but he’s managed to keep the Browns in position for a win in two of their three games.
Backup QB Dillon Gabriel, the rookie out of Oregon, has appeared in one game so far, getting some garbage time minutes during the Browns’ 41-17 blowout loss to the Ravens and going 3-3 on his pass attempts with a touchdown.
Meanwhile, his fellow rookie QB, Shedeur Sanders out of Colorado, hasn’t gotten any time under center yet this season, although it sounds like he believes he should be a starting QB in the NFL.
During an interview with ESPN Cleveland, Sanders was asked about staying ready for his name to be called:
“I don’t think playing or not playing is in my hands. I think based on the situation, if things happen and they pan out where I play, then I’ll be out there and I’ll be ready to play. I’m ready to play right now.”
And he also said that, as he looks around the league, he believes he’s better than some of the starting quarterbacks in the NFL this season:
“I know if you see the quarterback play in the league right now, I know I’m capable of doing better than that.”
Kind of a bold statement from somebody who’s never played a snap in the NFL, but honestly after watching Spencer Rattler for the last three weeks, I’d be willing to give Shedeur a shot at this point if he were in New Orleans.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when – or if – his number gets called. The post Cleveland Browns Third-String QB Shedeur Sanders Says He’s Better Than Some Starting Quarterbacks In The NFL first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
