Chris Pratt doesn’t have much patience for those that say The Terminal List: Dark Wolf isn’t for them.
The movie star has been a part of countless blockbusters in recent years (Jurassic World, Guardians of the Galaxy), but the project that has really landed with actions fans lately is his involvement in The Terminal List, and now that show’s prequel series: The Terminal List: Dark Wolf.
This prequel show focuses in on Taylor Kitsch’s character, Ben Edwards, who was considered to be a fan favorite in the show’s first season. Well, for most of it at least…
This new seven-episode series also stars Tom Hopper, Luke Hemsworth, and Chris Pratt, and premiered its first three episodes on August 27 (the rest will air weekly through the end of September).
In a conversation with Collider, Pratt expressed his gratefulness to be a part of the show, and now the show’s expanded universe. He then pointed out that he’s really appreciative of how authentic both Terminal List shows are, and had a very simple message for those that haven’t found it to be their cup of tea:
“You never know if someone’s gonna like what you’re doing, and that’s true. And I feel like there’s been this sort of hunger for maybe the past 10 years or so for entertainment that’s driven by people who actually aren’t making it because they’re worried about if someone’s gonna like it.
They’re not like, ‘Okay, what would they like best? What would be the most appropriate thing? What would be the right thing? How do we make this the most commercial thing?’ We’re like, ‘No, we have Navy SEALs, Army Rangers. We’re making a show. We’re making it authentic, and if you don’t like it, it’s just not for you, and that’s okay.'”
That’s a helpful message for many different parts of life. You don’t have to hate on a show that you don’t like, or feel as though it’s crossing a line… believe it or not, sometimes TV series aren’t for everybody.
One could argue that The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is really for those who tuned into the 2022 hit show wanted to know more about Taylor Kitsch’s character. The studio smartly listened to fans clamoring for more of Ben Edwards, and decided to spin up the prequel series spinoff. The first, flagship season of the show was based on a book, but this prequel is not, and draws off of what is already known about Kitsch’s character Ben Edwards.
And it’s cool to hear that most of the show, and the people who work around it, are veterans themselves.
Pratt shared that The Terminal List: Dark Wolf really goes for hyper-realistic storytelling, and they’re able to create that feeling by letting individuals who have actually served previously write the scripts. That creates an authenticity that truly makes the series stand out from other action programming, as Pratt explained:
“I think that authenticity has created something that’s actually pretty refreshing in the marketplace right now, where people are like, ‘Dude, you’re doing stuff that… Like, you just ripped a guy’s guts out with a hatchet. That’s f***ing awesome.’
And I was like, ‘Yeah, the studio didn’t want us to do it, but we did it, and then it turned out to be the best part,’ like one of the things that people talk to you about the most. So the idea of going into this thing indifferent to people’s reaction, and unapologetically being authentic to who these guys are, I think that set us up to be successful.”
Translation: everyone involved in The Terminal List and The Terminal List: Dark Wolf are going for a show that’s as authentic as it is entertaining. And that goal and motive makes it one of the most unique series on TV right now… even if it’s not for everybody.
