It’s not Red Rocks, but it’s the next best thing.
Eric Church is gearing up for three nights at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado.
But instead of performing the same show each night, the three night run will feature three entirely different shows from Church each evening.
The first show on July 14 will be “Eric Church vs. The Machine,” and will feature “a full-scale production featuring his band joined by a dynamic ensemble of strings, horns and choir.”
The second show, on July 15, is billed as “Eric Church vs. The ECB,” and sounds like the most traditional Eric Church show of the three nights, featuring “a raw, high-energy set with his original band, including longtime collaborator Joanna Cotten.”
And for the third night, he’s stripping it back for “Eric Church vs. The Guitar,” which will be “a stripped-down, intimate evening with Church alone on stage, delivering an acoustic performance like only he can.” (This is the one I’m REALLY looking forward to).
According to Church, the shows will set the stage for his upcoming tour, which will feature a mixture of all three shows in one. Speaking with Variety on what he has planned for the Free the Machine tour, Church says he wants to incorporate parts of each of the Red Rocks shows into the tour:
“Everything we do every stop on the tour is gonna be within the scope of those three nights. So the first night at Red Rocks, we’re gonna do an orchestra, big band kind of thing. Night two, we’re gonna do old-school band, the OG group. And then night three is me acoustic. So I think the (normal one-night-only) show will end up being in some way the three Red Rocks shows combined into one.
You’re gonna have these moments of where we are now with “Evangeline,” and we’re gonna also bring some of the strings and horns into some of our older stuff. You know, you’ve seen “Mistress (Named Music),” you’ve seen “Knives (of New Orleans)” before, but not this way. And then we’ll kind of go into what got us here, and then I think the end of the show will be me and a guitar.”
The three night run will by my first time at Red Rocks, and I couldn’t be more excited for my first experience at the iconic amphitheater to be three nights with the GOAT. But if I weren’t going to the shows in person, I know where I’d be watching from.
Eric’s downtown Nashville bar, Chief’s on Broadway, announced that they’ll be hosting a free live stream of all three shows in the Neon Steeple, the two-story venue located on the third and fourth floors of the bar.
If you haven’t been to Chief’s, the Neon Steeple is reminiscent of the Ryman Auditorium, with pews in the balcony and stained glass windows featuring some of Church’s heroes. (There’s also a confessional in the corner if you need it…)
It’s the coolest space in any bar on Broadway, and the giant screen behind the stage makes it perfect for watching the live stream. I watched part of the Stagecoach livestream there last year, and it was great.
Of course if you’re not in Nashville and still want to watch, all three nights will be also be livestreamed on nugs.net. Fans can choose to just stream one show, or save by bundling all three nights together. And of course members of his Church Choir fan club also get a discount. (Not going to share the code here, but check your email if you’re in the Choir).
I’m counting down the days until I leave for Red Rocks, because I know this is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience of magical shows from Chief. But if you happen to be in Nashville next week and still want to catch them, his bar is a pretty good place to do it.The post Chief’s On Broadway To Host Free Live Stream Of Eric Church’s Upcoming Red Rocks Shows first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
