Yet another big name added to the cast of The Dutton Ranch.
Of all the Yellowstone spinoffs that have been announced and released, the one focusing in on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler is probably the most anticipated. Obviously, Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will be returning to reprise their respective roles in the new show. But fans have been wondering who else would be joining the cast that’ll continue the Yellowstone story.
It’s been stated that this spinoff with Beth and Rip will remain closest to the feel of the flagship series. For those wondering, it does appear that others from Yellowstone will be joining the unnamed spinoff… or at least one other cast member. Deadline reported back in July that Finn Little would be returning to play his character Carter in the series, and that he’d be a regular alongside Reilly and Hauser’s Beth and Rip.
Judging by the show’s official synopsis, the relationship between Beth, Rip and Carter will be the through line:
“Beth Dutton (Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Hauser) are grateful for the peace they sought, fought, and nearly died for with their 7,000-acre Dutton Ranch. With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter (Little) becomes the man he’s supposed to be.”
And the new spinoff will also include a couple of new faces. Deadline once again had the scoop, sharing that A-list actress Annette Bening is set to join the Yellowstone universe, playing a powerful owner of a major Texas ranch named Beulah Jackson. If the actress’ name sounds familiar, that’s because she has starred in such critically acclaimed films as The Grifters (1990), Bugsy (1991) and American Beauty (1999). I have to imagine the 5-time Academy Award-nominated actress will be butting heads with Dutton and Wheeler a fair amount, and she’s got plenty of gravitas to handle that role.
Another actor that’s got plenty of gravitas to go around? That’d be Jai Courtney, and he was also just confirmed to be in The Dutton Ranch by Variety. You might know the Australian actor from his roles in films like The Suicide Squad or Terminator Genisys, or his parts in the TV shows American Primeval and The Terminal List. If you don’t know Courtney from any of those projects (do yourself a favor and go check them out), then you’ll soon get to know him as “Rob-Will” in the Yellowstone spinoff.
The talented, 39-year-old actor will play an “unpredictable ranch foreman” that’s sure to stir up some trouble at the Dutton Ranch.
Oh, and in case you haven’t heard, showrunner Chad Feehan – who previously worked on Lawmen: Bass Reeves – has been appointed as the showrunner for the Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler spinoff. Having someone familiar with the way Yellowstone-adjacent productions are done will surely help to give the new show that same, successful Taylor Sheridan feel.
That’s all good news. The bad news? The Dutton Ranch’s release date got delayed.
All signs were pointing towards The Dutton Ranch (more on that name in a second) premiering in late 2025 between September and December. Every piece of information that Paramount released about the upcoming spinoff put it as a “Q4 release” in 2025. However, in the latest earnings call for Q2 from Paramount, they clarified that the spinoff focusing on Beth and Rip would actually find itself premiering in 2026.
That’s a bit of a bummer, but we can all rest assured knowing that everyone behind The Dutton Ranch (especially Taylor Sheridan) is working to make a show that’s the perfect continuation of the Yellowstone storyline. The post Australian Actor, Jai Courtney, Added To Cast Of Yellowstone’s Rip & Beth Spinoff, ‘The Dutton Ranch’ first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
