Ali Larter must not get on social media very much… because many of the fans are saying the exact opposite.

It’s been a weird Season 2 for Landman. The show that features a star-studded cast of Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, and Michelle Randolph, among others, was basically an entertainment phenomenon during it’s inaugural run. That created a lot of anticipation for the second season, which started airing back in November of 2025.

In fact, there was so much hype around the show that Season 2’s premiere was the biggest season or series premiere ever for Paramount+. More than 9 million people viewed the first episode of the second season in the first fews days it was available on the streamer. For reference, that number was more than triple what the series premiere of Landman did in 2024.

Everyone wanted to follow along with the adventures of Thornton’s Tommy Norris to see how he and others around him navigated the complicated and often chaotic Texas oil industry. And fans have kept tuning in week after week to see how things progress… but that’s the problem. A lot of fans feel as though Season 2 of Landman is dragging, and now there’s only two episodes left to save it from itself.

Much of the complaints from fans stem from Landman focusing on family relationships this season rather than the oil industry. In defense of the show, Billy Bob Thornton warned fans that the second season would be a “slow burn” that would eventually “ramp up.” That slow burn description has definitely been fitting, but it’s hard to imagine that the final two episodes will be that ramp up that fans have been hoping for.

That being said, I guess you shouldn’t ever doubt Taylor Sheridan.

Funny enough, during a recent – and quick (it was at the Critic’s Choice Awards) – interview with Landman star Ali Larter, the actress who plays Angela told Fox News Digital that fans of the show are loving the family dynamics showcased in the series:

“I think that we were incredibly surprised our second season premiere was so big. People love the messy family, they love the dynamics. There’s something in our show for everyone. I think some people love the marriage storyline, other people love Jacob (Lofland) or laugh with Michelle (Randolph)’s comedy. There’s a little something for everyone.”

I said “funny enough” because, from everything that I’ve seen, those storylines that Larter laid out are actually infuriating fans.

Viewers fell in love with the show because they were finally getting to see behind the curtain of the oil industry. One could argue that no other TV show had ever done it like Landman. And now, it truly feels as though the Taylor Sheridan hit has abandoned it’s fastball, and has instead opted to submerge itself in the supporting storylines… effectively making them the main plot.

Ali Larter mentioned that she and the rest of those involved were surprised that the Season 2 premiere was so big. If the show maintains this pace, there’s a chance they are shocked when Season 3 premieres… and they find out that the viewership has abandoned ship.
