Aaron got jokes.

At this point, Aaron Watson has become a must-follow on social media. While, of course, he has a laundry list of phenomenal songs ranging from “July In Cheyenne (Song For Lane’s Momma)” and “Bluebonnets (Julia’s Song)” to “Outta Style” and “Vaquero,” the Texas singer/songwriter has quickly become one of the most entertaining artists in the genre on social media over the past year or so.

Completely leaning into his dad persona, he frequently uploads his own commentaries on pretty much all the drama going on in country music in his “Tailgate Talks” series. Whether it’s the incredibly drawn-out Charley Crockett, Gavin Adcock and Zach Bryan beef, Beyoncé’s place in the genre, calling out Laci Kaye Booth for her “George F****** Strait” song or making fun of Warren Zeiders after an onstage outburst, Watson rarely holds back. Usually, a lot of these videos are all in good fun, especially considering the fact that Watson himself just wants to see young artists, particularly those from his home state of Texas, succeed.

This seems to be the case once again upon the release of Hudson Westbrook’s collaboration with DJ and record producer, Marshmello.

In case you missed it, Westbrook released a new song, “Better Man Than Me,” with the DJ today. Before that, however, he teased the song on Instagram last week, and fans were pretty divided to say the least. Though there are some that loved it and were just excited to see him collaborate with an artist as big as Marshmello, plenty were not loving his venture into pop with multiple comments pleading with him not to become the next Kane Brown and another one hilariously blaming it on Luke Bryan:

“Already selling out? Cmon man don’t be the next Kane Brown”

“NOOOO THEY GOT HUDSON”

“This one ain’t it.”

“no he’s turning into Morgan Wallen”

“We don’t need another Kane Brown”

“Bro please don’t go pop country”

“Been telling people he was a**. This just proves it even more.”

“Stop we don’t need anymore of this hip hop country”

“Dude please don’t go into trap country lmao”

Andddddd that’s when he fell off”

“Welp there goes another good country artist. I blame this wave of country on Luke Bryan”

In typical Aaron Watson fashion, he decided to make light of the situation (and attempt to take some of the heat off of Westbrook). Taking to Instagram to promote his own new release, “Pontiac (So Tell Me Momma),” Watson, along with his son Jake wearing a white bucket on his head, posted up at a tree in their yard, mimicking how the “Painted You Pretty” singer and Marshmello sat in one of their promotional videos. With Jake hilariously doing the same head shakes and hand taps as Marshmello, Watson proceeds to lip-sync “Pontiac” in the clip.

Obviously, this was all in good fun, with Watson saying in the caption:

“I guess west Texas boys think alike! Ha! Proud of ya Hudson! Keep it up buddy!”

Being a good sport about it, Westbrook and Marshmello both took to the comment section to thank Watson for the parody/shoutout, with the DJ congratulating him on the release of “Pontiac.”

“Thanks man/????????????” – Hudson Westbrook

“congrats on the release fellas” – Marshmello

Leave it to Aaron Watson to try to ease the tensions between outraged country fans and his fellow Texas artist. You truly love to see it (no matter how wrong Marshmello’s continued presence in the genre feels).
