Over the weekend, Zach Bryan announced that his new single, “Streets Of London” would be dropping on Monday, June 30th. He then performed the song at BST Hyde Park, where he became one of only 5 artists to ever sell out Hyde Park for two nights in a row, and it goes without saying, but the massive crowd of 65,000 Londoners were losing their mind for the new track.
However, Monday came and went and the song didn’t drop, so Zach took to Instagram to detail everything that’s coming down the pipeline, and give fans a pretty decent look at the next album. Well, decent compared to anything we’ve heard so far…
The reason “Streets Of London” didn’t drop yesterday is because there are TWO songs coming today, per Zach on an Instagram story:
“Decided to put two songs out instead of just one so it’s gonna take an extra day!! Songs’ll be out Tuesday. Sorry, sorry, sorry.”
And then he dove into detailing why they are coming out now, and also why they won’t be on the new album:
“They are kind of just tunes that didn’t belong on the record, and they didn’t fit on an EP either. So I’m just releasing them into the world because I love them. Hope you guys enjoy them. I love one of ya! Even the folks who talked mad s*** all year.”
You know who you are…
He added:
“Also only 5 people ever have sold out Hyde Park two nights in a row. I have you guys to thank for it. I love you so much for showing out London. I will love your beautiful city and country forever! See you next time. And to my best friends, my crew, and my band. What you do I’ll forever be indebted for. I am so lucky to know each and every one of you and you’ll be my family forever. God speed boys and girls, get back home safe.”
But then he went on to reveal some of the songs that will be on the next album, and a few that won’t make the cut…
“The songs I’m releasing are ‘River Washed Hair’ and ‘Streets Of London.’ Songs like ‘Dreams,’ ‘Madeline,’ ‘Plastic Cigarette,’ ‘Bowery,’ and ‘Rockaway’ will all be on the record. I’m working on making it special so everyone just f****** chill for a sec. ‘Runny Eggs,’ ‘Skin,’ ‘Savior Complex,’ and a s*** load more that no one’s ever heard are on it!
Just been living well and writing often. It’ll be here when it’s here! Some of us prefer to write our own records.”
Last year Zach promised fans an EP, which at the time was going to be called With Heaven On Top, and then also revealed that his upcoming album would be called Motorbreath. Zach Bryan also told fans that he is planning to release his final major label album when he teased a “Motorbreath” film project. The teaser featured a narration from Matthew McConaughey, which said:
“This is not a film about a band, this is a film about a boy from Oklahoma. A boy who joined the Navy, with a love of writing. That writing connected with people, a lot of people. This film is about a group of best friends taking a two-week motorcycle ride across America, while recording one final major label album. Oh, and the title of the film you ask? ‘Motorbreath.’”
Of course, Zach was recently on that cross country motorcycle trip (it was well-documented on Instagram), but he also recently reupped with Warner for two albums (it’s unclear if that means two in addition to the one he already owed them, or two total), and he also reportedly sold his publishing catalog for a cool $350 million.
All of that being said, there’s a lot to be excited about for Zach Bryan fans. And I know Zach’s become one of the biggest acts in all of music and that it’s “cool” to hate on Zach right now, but for my money, he’s still one of the most compelling acts in the business. Introspective songwriting that he still does all himself, minimal production, no bells and whistles… just a group of friends making music that connects with the people around the world on a massive scale. I think it’s pretty cool what he’s been able to accomplish for someone who was in Navy just releasing songs he recorded on a cellphone. Personally, I couldn’t care less about his personal life… I’m excited for this next chapter of tunes.
Godspeed ol’ son… we’re waiting patiently.
