The cast for The Dutton Ranch continues to be rounded out.
Of all the Yellowstone spinoffs that have been announced and released, the one focusing in on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler is probably the most anticipated. Obviously, Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will be returning to reprise their respective roles in the new show. But fans have been wondering if any other former cast members would also be suiting back up to continue their Yellowstone story.
After all, this spinoff with Beth and Rip has been talked about as the one that will remain closest to the feel of the flagship series. For those wondering, it does appear that others from Yellowstone will be joining the unnamed spinoff… or at least one other cast member. Deadline reported back in July that Finn Little would be returning to play his character Carter in the series, and that he’d be a regular alongside Reilly and Hauser’s Beth and Rip.
If you call yourself a fan of the show, you’ll remember that Carter joined Yellowstone during the premiere of the fourth season. He’s a bit of a troubled character (who isn’t in the Yellowstone universe?) who was somewhat adopted by Beth and Rip. Beth and Carter initially bonded when Beth was visiting her father as he died in the hospital, and Carter was doing the same with his own dad.
Eventually, Rip and Beth became guardians of Carter, and provided work for the young man on the ranch. It seems as though that connection and storyline will be further developed and explored in the upcoming series. According to the show’s synopsis, the underlying theme will deal with Beth and Rip making sure that they raise Carter to be the man he’s supposed to be.
And the new spinoff will also include a new face. Deadline once again had the scoop, sharing that A-list actress Annette Bening is set to join the Yellowstone universe, playing a powerful owner of a major Texas ranch named Beulah Jackson. If the actress’ name sounds familiar, that’s because she has starred in such critically acclaimed films as The Grifters (1990), Bugsy (1991) and American Beauty (1999). I have to imagine the 5-time Academy Award-nominated actress will be butting heads with Dutton and Wheeler a fair amount, and she’s got plenty of gravitas to handle that role.
In another exciting update to the spinoff now confirmed to be titled The Dutton Ranch, showrunner Chad Feehan – who previously worked on Lawmen: Bass Reeves – has been appointed as the showrunner for the Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler spinoff. Having someone familiar with the way Yellowstone-adjacent productions are done will surely help to give the new show that same, successful Taylor Sheridan feel.
That’s all good news. The bad news? The Dutton Ranch’s release date got delayed.
All signs were pointing towards The Dutton Ranch (more on that name in a second) premiering in late 2025 between September and December. Every piece of information that Paramount released about the upcoming spinoff put it as a “Q4 release” in 2025. However, in Paramount’s latest earnings call for Q2, they clarified that the spinoff focusing on Beth and Rip would actually find itself premiering in 2026.
Guess we’ll have to pull up the Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler highlight reel until then:
