What a cover.
Since its release back on July 25th, Tyler Childers’ Snipe Hunter has quickly become one of the most controversial country albums of the year. Despite many (myself included) touting the experimental record as yet another killer entry in Childers’ deep discography, there have been plenty of former fans of the “Feathered Indians” singer who are unhappy with the overall sound and direction he decided to take with producer, Rick Rubin.
There is one song present on Snipe Hunter that has been universally agreed upon as a standout, however. That song is none other than the viral hit, “Bitin’ List.”
With over 7 million streams on Spotify alone, the track has become a smash hit on TikTok. Being used on a staggering 108,000 posts since its release, it’s currently sitting at #4 on TikTok’s Viral 50 music chart. This is thanks to the song quickly becoming a trend on the app with various users posting their dislikes as people/things on their own self-proclaimed “bitin’ list.” It also got a boost thanks in part to Zach Bryan’s ex-wife, Rose Madden, getting her video using the sound clip reposted by Childers’ official account, sparking debate on whether the “Lady May” singer was throwing shade at Bryan.
But over the weekend, none other than Willow Avalon shared her own take on Childers’ viral hit on TikTok, and it’s nothing short of phenomenal.
In case you’re somehow not familiar with Avalon, she’s firmly placed herself atop the ranks of today’s new generation of female country acts along with the likes of Maggie Antone, Kaitlin Butts, Sierra Ferrell, Kat Hasty and more. Sounding somewhere between Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn with a modern edge, the “Homewrecker” singer released her debut album, Southern Belle Raisin’ Hell, back in January to incredibly high praise.
Couple that with a live TV debut on The Late Show with Steven Colbert back in January, a surprise appearance with Zach Bryan on “I Remember Everything” at Stagecoach and the success of tracks such as “Tequila or Whiskey” and the Waylon Wyatt collaboration, “Smoke & Embers,” and you have an artist who’s primed for continued success heading into 2026.
Using the same style present on the aforementioned album, Avalon absolutely crushes this cover of “Bitin’ List,” complete with some bluegrassy fiddle and a simple kick drum. It’s pretty well-documented that the Georgia native has one of the most distinct vocals and delivery in the genre right now, and it’s showcased brilliantly here. There’s an undeniable charm in nearly all of her songs, and it transfers to “Bitin’ List” in a way that only Avalon can.
Fans are also loving the cover, with many taking to the comments to praise Avalon and her backing band:
“I’m livin’ for this cover“
“omg yes!! love your version!”
“10/10”
“y’all are amazing”
“human perfection”
“Looove”
There aren’t too many artists that I can confidently say are giving Childers a run for his money covering one of his songs, but Avalon absolutely does here. We need a full cover ASAP.
