The Premier League schedule is looking very strange this weekend, with only four games planned for Saturday. Typically, Saturday is always the busiest day for fixtures in the top-flight and English football in general. There have been five to eight Premier League matches played on every Saturday of the season so far. However, there’s an unusually depleted fixture schedule this weekend. Only four top-flight games are taking place, with Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham all featuring. Why are there only four Premier League games on Saturday? There has been a big reshuffle of Premier League fixtures this Saturday due to European football. Only Leeds vs Tottenham, Man United vs Sunderland, Arsenal vs West Ham and Chelsea vs Liverpool are taking place. That is because three games were forced to be moved as a team is playing in European competition on Thursday. Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa are all playing in the Europa League and Conference League. As those games are happening on a Thursday, they cannot play on the following Saturday, as clubs need to be given two clear days between matches. Therefore, Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest, Everton vs Crystal Palace and Aston Villa vs Burnley were moved to Sunday afternoon after originally being scheduled for Saturday.
