Can’t even blame her.
It seems like everywhere you go these days online, you can’t escape Zach Top. This, of course, is for good reason. Between the undeniable charm, the classic ’90s sound and some severely underrated guitar skills, the “I Never Lie” singer has been deemed the savior of country music for well over a year at this point.
Following the success of his debut album, Cold Beer & Country Music, which prompted him to win New Male Artist of the Year at the ACMs, Top is about to release his sophomore effort, Ain’t In It For My Health. It seems like everything he touches turns to gold lately, and he’s captured the hearts of nearly everyone — including Brothers Osborne’s mother, funnily enough.
This afternoon, John Osborne took to Instagram to share a hilarious voicemail he received from his and T.J.’s mom asking for one of Top’s albums. Prefacing the message, Osborne, in a deadpan delivery, sarcastically said:
“Alright y’all, it’s official. We have been replaced as our mom’s favorite band by Zach Top.”
He’d then go on to share her message:
“Hey John, have you played with Zach Top yet? If you haven’t, I’d like to have one of his records. Alrighty, love you. Bye.”
The voicemail by itself is already amusing enough, but the story gets even more funny when you realize that John and T.J.’s sister, Natalie, is in the music business herself. Not only is she in the music business, however. She works with the likes of Red Light Management and — you guessed it — Leo33, Zach Top’s label.
It gets even better though. Natalie was actually the driving force that got Top signed to Leo33, as she works in their Artists and Repertoire (A&R) department:
“Mom, our sister, your daughter, your youngest child, works at Zach’s label. Not only works there, signed Zach to his record deal at the company that pays for and produces his records.”
As the story goes, Natalie saw Top play “Cold Beer & Country Music” at Whiskey Jam back on January 6, 2023. Floored by the performance, she became a fan and immediately pursued signing him. Flashforward eight months later to September 6, 2023, and the two inked a deal, which funded the release of his debut album. The rest, as they say… is history for the pair.
In fact, she’s remained a key part of Top’s career and can even be seen with him celebrating with him and the rest of the folks over at Leo33 when “I Never Lie” went gold back in March.
If you’re like John and T.J.’s mom and can’t get enough of Top, his aforementioned sophomore album releases in just three weeks. Judging by the pre-released singles, “Good Times & Tan Lines” and “South of Sanity,” it looks like it’s going to be another smash hit for the Washington native.
