Sierra Ferrell got sentimental in St. Louis this past week, leaving the crowd at the Stifel Theatre with a message that felt bigger than the music itself. On her Shoot for the Moon Tour, the West Virginia native delivered a performance that reminded everyone why her shows feel less like concerts and more like spiritual experiences.

Before launching into her song “Lighthouse,” Sierra paused to share some thoughts that hit home for just about everyone in the room.

“In our life we are going through a lot. That’s kinda the deal in life.”

From the jump, it was clear her words were connecting. You could feel the crowd settle into the moment, like everyone recognized exactly what she meant. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind, but Sierra wasn’t going to let the room forget that struggle is something we all carry.

“For some people it doesn’t seem to be even easier just by the way they look, or want to be called, or what they wanna be and that’s not right, that’s not fair.”

If that’s not a reminder about human dignity, I don’t know what is. Sierra made it plain: at the end of the day, most people just want to live their lives… walking in freedom, without judgment. There’s something powerful about hearing an artist you admire put that into words in front of a packed theater.

She continued:

“We are looking for answers and a lot of the time we don’t get any… so we gotta stick to praying.”

That one line hit like a sermon. In a world that feels more chaotic by the day, she reminded everyone where to turn when the answers don’t come easy.

“We gotta pray because that falls in the lines of us being magical yet again.”

Sierra tied prayer to magic explaining that if you pray with intention, you’re not just asking, but you’re unlocking a kind of spiritual power that we all have inside us. There is power in prayer. She provided a little context for her own prayer background, shifting into one of the more vulnerable moments of the night.

“I love God and I love Jesus, but I don’t like what people do in the name of God and I don’t like what people do in the name of Jesus.”

The crowd erupted with cheers and plenty of “Amens.” If Sierra ever wanted to lead a sermon, I think it’s safe to say she’d pack the house. Of course, it’s no secret that Christianity has had a long history of hypocrites and heretics, much like any religion, political party or school of thought. She closed her speech by asking the crowd to be her light, right before easing into “Lighthouse.”

“Could you be the lighthouse for my soul.”

Yes, Sierra. We absolutely can.

The comments were over the moon:

“I wish I could experience this show all over again.”

“Love her words, great show”

“Mountain Angel”

Her Shoot for the Moon Tour rolls on with stops in Colorado, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and plenty more. And if this show was any indication, she’ll keep leaving people with more than just a night of great music. She’s bringing light, love, and maybe even a little bit of magic.
