They say you should never meet your heroes, you’ll only ever be disappointed by them. Such wasn’t the case for Australian madcap experimental rock/metal/punk band King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard last Friday as they played at this year’s Field of Vision festival in Buena Vista, Colorado and got to play a classic Dead Kennedys song with Jello Biafra himself.

For the penultimate track of their roughly three-hour marathon set, King Gizzard’s Amby Kenny-Smith, Mickey Cavanagh, Cookie Craig, Joey Walker, Lukey Harwood and Stu Mackenzie made room on their stage to welcome Biafra, calling him and the Dead Kennedys one of the band’s biggest and earliest influences.

What followed was an energetic cover of “Police Truck”, complete with distorted harmonica solo and gang vocals performed by the excited crowd. As King Giz is wont to do, they definitely embellished the solo section of the song a smidge, adding their own experimental flare to the track.

At the end of the song, Biafra shared his own love for King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, saying the performance was “a great fuckin’ moment of my life, this is my favorite band in the world.” Had to feel real good for the rest of the band to hear that from someone they look up to musically.

Either way, check out the video below, because it seems like that was one hell of a performance.
