Getting his live reaction.

Since the horrific assassination of conservative media personality and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk yesterday during an event at Utah Valley University, reactions have been pouring in from every corner of America. From politicians and celebrities to athletes and even the New York Yankees taking time to remember Kirk with a moment of silence at last night’s game, the reaction has overwhelmingly been one of sadness, outrage, and horror that somebody would be killed for their political beliefs in the United States of America.

While most people had time to collect their thoughts before reacting to the murder, it turns out podcaster Joe Rogan was actually in the middle of recording an episode of his podcast when the news broke. And that episode, which just dropped today, featured…actor Charlie Sheen.

I’ll admit, it’s a little surreal seeing Charlie Sheen there while Rogan reacts in real-time to the news, but you can tell just how shocked they both were, with Sheen picking up immediately on the gravity of the situation:

“Murdered for having a different opinion from somebody else, different ideology from somebody else.”

And Rogan offered an eloquent tribute:

“There’s going to be a lot of people celebrating this. It’s so scary. It’s so dangerous too, to celebrate or to in any way encourage this kind of behavior from human beings. He’s not a violent guy. He was talking to people on college campuses. Wasn’t even particularly rude. Tried to be pretty reasonable with people.

Whether you agree with him or don’t, and there’s a lot of stuff that I didn’t agree with him on, that’s fine, you’re allowed to disagree with people without celebrating the fact that they got shot.”

Rogan said that Kirk was a reminder of the importance of reasonable debate:

“What you’re supposed to do with a guy like that, if you’re opposing him, is debate him. Have a conversation where your argument is more compelling than his. That’s what people should be celebrating – discourse. We used to do that.”

And he also took issue with those who would, predictably, be celebrating the news of Kirk’s death:

“I know people are going to celebrate it, because this is a f—ked up time, and people have really fallen into this trap of us against them.”

Sheen also worried of the chilling effect that it may have on people willing to speak out:

“It’s also going to make people not want to be as courageous and not want to be as forthright with the things they believe. It’s going to put people on guard.

It could do the opposite, and I get that, but there’s also going to be that sort of ingrained thing now.”

Rogan says he only met Charlie Kirk once, ironically at a gun range, but found him to be a nice guy who became a victim of the deadly division in our country:

“It’s a f—ked up time. People are so divided in this country. They’re so divided, and there are so many people that love it. They love that we’re divided. And they profit off that division. And they stoke the fires. And they do it for their own profit, and it’s so f–king gross.

And to encourage this kind of thing is really – one of the most horrific things that you could do after somebody dies horribly like this is celebrate. It should be a wakeup call for everybody.”

But in sentiments shared by many, Rogan also worried about what comes next:

“One of two things is going to happen. Either people are going to realize how f–king insane this is and we have to have a conversation about being able to have conversations, or it’s going to get a lot worse. That’s what’s scary. Scary this could spark off some kind of real violent conflict.”

Let’s hope that’s not the case.
