Two Bull Elk Clash Antlers In Estes Park & One Nicknamed “Hospital Bull” Comes Out Victorious

It’s estimated that over 280,000 elk live in Colorado, which is enough to give the state the honor of housing the largest concentrated population of elk in the world. Believe it or not, that many elk bring in tourists from all over the planet, and one of the more popular places they visit is Estes Park, Colorado.
The town acts as somewhat of a base for the Rocky Mountain National Park, and always has elk moving through and around the city limits. Herds occasionally take over Estes Park, and the humans that call the town home are often witnesses to elk-on-elk encounters… like this one that was captured on camera.
Two massive bull elk set their sights on one another on the side of the road in Estes Park and the fight was on. It appears that someone that was walking nearby saw the clash developing and decided to turn their camera on. Was the person far enough way from the wild animals battling it out for supremacy? Tough to say… but I probably would have given these elk a little bit more room.
Strangely, this antler clashing took place outside of the regular elk rut season. It’s normal for bull elk to be more aggressive and vocal from September to November. They starting “acting up” during that period of time to establish dominance, and in hopes of securing a female mate.
This video below appears to have been recorded in the past couple of days. Though they could still be fighting over the females running by, this could be more of a territorial tussle. Regardless of what they are battling for or over, the two elk didn’t hold any punches (can an elk hold a punch?) and went all out in this intense push-of-war face off.
The sound alone of the elk fight is incredible. One of the large, antlered animals comes trotting along on the road, only to then be met by a larger elk that’s evidently nicknamed the “Hospital Bull.” A reputable account commented on the post and said, “The winner of the fight we call Hospital Bull – he’s a tank and fights a lot!” Just using my very own eyeballs, I can confirm that a) Hospital Bull is a tank and b) he’s one heck of a fighter.
And how about a great nickname for a wild animal, eh? I’m assuming the large and in charge elk got the nickname because he’s such a skilled combatant that he can effectively send his opponents to the hospital. At the very least, the certified winner of this clash sent his elk adversary packing… and bugling in defeat all the way home.
Safe to say that the “Hospitable Bull” rules this roost, and any challenger will have to really train in antler-clashing and bulk up to stand a chance. Get another worthy elk nicknamed “Ambulance Elk” to face off with “Hospital Bull” and you’ve got yourself a good, old-fashioned, high stakes WWE-esque showdown.
With how this one played out, it’d be more of an undercard:
P.S. – Couldn’t the bull elk just be nicknamed “Hospita-bull?” Seems like that would make more sense, considering the wordplay is right there for the taking…The post Two Bull Elk Clash Antlers In Estes Park & One Nicknamed “Hospital Bull” Comes Out Victorious first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
