Turnstile Took the Mosh Pit to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series

If there’s one thing I didn’t think I’d ever associate with NPR and their Tiny Desk Concert series, it would be moshing and crowd surfing. They’ve had some hard rock and metal acts pass through their tiny desk in the past, what with GWAR and Royal Thunder both having played there before, but Turnstile recently turned it up another level.

Released earlier today, the footage of Turnstile’s Tiny Desk performance is something to behold. Sure, they highlight their multi-genre approach to their tunes by playing somewhat barebones versions of “Dreaming,” “Sunshower,” “I Care,” “Never Enough,” and “Birds” off their latest album Never Enough, but it’s what happens during their performance that really stands out.

Throughout the entire show, you can tell there’s an energy brewing in that office space. People are getting really into the music and the band wants to let loose, but it isn’t until they play their last song “Birds” that things go off. The crowd gets closer to the action and people are jumping up and down to the music. It only takes a little bit of time to get vocalist Brendan Yates to hop up on a desk, survey the crowd, and then hurl himself into the group of folks — thus starting the first instance of crowdsurfing at NPR’s long-running Tiny Desk Concert series.

This whole thing took place just days before the band’s set to kick off their ‘Never Enough Tour’, which will start on the 15th. You can check out the full list of tour dates below.
