A ditty for their buds behind bars.

Over the weekend, two Texas Tech students left their game in handcuffs after deciding to rush the field. The Red Raiders were playing Oregon State, but the game was halted Saturday afternoon after a 45-minute weather delay at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Instead of using that time to grab a bite to eat or to enjoy a few beers before cheering on their team, two men decided to provide Jones with some entertainment and made the bold choice to rush the field.

One of the fans did a backflip near the university’s logo on the 50-yard line before being tackled by security personnel. The other fan sprinted back to a section of the north end zone while being chased by additional security personnel. Given that the first fan was in handcuffs at this point, a group of fans in the stands grabbed the second fan’s arms in an attempt to pull him up and save him, but their efforts failed.
Stadium security and Lubbock Police officers grabbed his legs, pulling him back down to the field.

Both men were escorted out of the stadium in handcuffs.

After the incident, two of the culprits’ friends shared that the two men were still in jail as of Sunday. While sitting and hoping that their friends would get out of jail soon, the arrested men’s roommates sat down and penned a little tune highlighting what went down on the field, and to add some comedic flair to the unfortunate situation.

“This is a song we wrote in the last hour and a half about our roommates getting arrested after trying to rush the Jones.”

They say before firing up an acoustic melody. The men detailed the whole situation in a play-by-play talking style of lyrical delivery similar to the Johnny Cash classic, “Boy Named Sue.”

The tune goes a little like this:

“Well, it was a rain delay on a Saturday
And Tech was playing Oregon State
And two ole boys thought they’d give it a run
Well, they jumped down from their stadium seats
And felt the turf beneath their feet
Flip flops moving at 100 miles an hour
Well, they got to that old double T
Looked up and saw security

The clip took off, gaining almost 400k views in 24 hours, and many viewers shared that they have to sing this song outside of the Lubbock County Jail when their roommates get released. Hilariously, other Texas Tech fans are taking the tune and putting it to clips they captured of the two men rushing the field, which makes the viewing experience that much better.

I think that every friend group needs to start penning tunes like this when someone gets arrested. This is gold. The post Texas Tech Students Go Viral For Penning An Original Country Tune After Their Roommates Got Arrested Rushing The Field At Jones AT&T Stadium first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
