Taylor Sheridan Doubles Down: ‘Landman’ Takes Another Hilarious Shot At The ‘The View’

Landman isn’t shying away from poking fun at The View… in fact, they recently went back for seconds.
As you very well know, nothing can happen in the world without the “world class” commentary of The View stepping in and giving their thoughts on things. The show, which originally aired in 1997, has covered pop culture news and other noteworthy items for almost three decades. Almost hard to believe it’s gone on that long, am I right?
The members of The View’s panel (which I used to recognize but now have no idea who they are) consist of Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro. I don’t feel like I have to clarify this, but just in case it’s not common knowledge at this point, all of the co-hosts pretty much all dislike Donald Trump and lean more liberal.
That’s why Landman decided they’d be ripe for making fun of.
It was earlier in Season 2 (Episode 5 to be exact) when Taylor Sheridan and the rest of the crew working on the hit Paramount+ show decided to take aim at the long-running day time talk show. Once the clip of the show hit the internet, it was yet another example of Landman producing a scene that went viral.
Basically, Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) and his father, T.L. (Sam Elliott), were having a conversation on the phone. In case you need a reminder, Tommy’s father decided to move from the Texas Panhandle to Midland, and Angela (Ali Larter) insisted that T.L. live with them instead of moving into a nearby retirement home or assisted living facility.
And T.L. was fine with the decision, but he wasn’t so sure how to spend all of his time at the house. So Sam Elliott’s character called up his son to ask what he should do to stay busy, and Tommy Norris suggested that he watch a daytime talkshow like The View.
T.L. then asked what it was, which then lead to this quippy line that was delivered beautifully by Billy Bob Thornton:
“A bunch of pissed off millionaires b****ing about how much they hate millionaires and Trump and men and you and me and everybody else they got a bee up their a** about. It’s pretty funny… Well, it ain’t joke funny. It’s like ‘Fart in church’ funny, you know what I mean?”
That spread online like wildfire (because everybody can appreciate a jab directed at The View).
And in the penultimate episode of Landman, they decided to call back to that viral moment from earlier in the season with an update on T.L.’s TV watching habits. When Tommy Norris asked his father what his plans were for later in the day, Sam Elliott’s character responded with this hilarious line:
“I might watch that View later. You’re right, they’re pretty funny. I don’t think they’re trying to be funny, but they are.”
Looks like the father took advice from his son… even if Tommy Norris was just joking about tuning into The View.
When it comes to political commentary, Taylor Sheridan isn’t holding anything back in the second season of Landman. In the same episode with The View callback, the show also addressed woke college culture, and much of the social media world ate that up too. There’s no doubt that Sheridan knows how to craft a viral moment, and there’s only one episode left in the show’s second season to see if the series can cook up one more before it goes on break.
Fans of the hit Paramount+ show will want to tune in Sunday, Jan. 18 for Landman’s Season 2 finale.
