Static X 01

When Static-X lost their frontman Wayne Static to his battle with addiction back in 2014, everyone questioned what the band could possibly do to recover. Fast forward a few years later and they’ve released Project Regeneration Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, which featured the final recordings of their fallen bandmate, and gone on tour using a Static-like robot looking dude named Xer0 (who’s totally not Edsel Dope) as their new frontman.

Now, it seems like the band might be willing to move on and write new music with their current lineup. All they’ll need to do is finish working on their long-awaited documentary. While speaking with Bloodstock TV at last month’s Bloodstock Open Air, bassist Tony Campos expressed the band’s potential interest in committing to writing new music in the future.

“We’ve been talking about writing some new material, some new songs. We have a documentary that’s in the works right now. So we’re gonna finish that first. And then, once we drop that, then we’ll revisit going in and writing some new material. I don’t wanna juggle too many plates. Let’s just finish [the documentary]. Then we can focus all of our attention on new material.”

It’s not exactly an iron-clad admission of new music existing or anything, but even the idea that they’re considering it at all is a major step. When asked whether the aforementioned documentary could be expected next year, Campos confirmed that was the plan.

“Yeah, that’s what we’re shooting for. We’re in editing process now. All the footage is done. We’ve just gotta find the right edit. And we’ll get done with this run here, we’ll get done with the run in the U.S. coming up with Mudvayne, and then we’ll spend the rest of the year working on that.”

As mentioned, Static-X will go on tour with Mudvayne and Vended starting next week, with shows running until their final stop in Uncasville, Connecticut on October 26. You can find the full list of dates below.
