Breathtaking.

As time passes, it’s become increasingly clear that Shane Smith & the Saints are the most underrated bands not only in the Red Dirt scene but in music in general. Backed by their patented blend of southern rock and stylings from Appalachian country, the Texas band scored early hits with the likes of “All I See Is You,” “Dance the Night Away” and “Lord Bury Me in Texas.”

Over the past decade, it’s been easy to see that they’ve just gotten better with age. The sound has remained nearly the same, in the best way possible, of course. However, frontman Shane Smith’s voice has simply improved with every subsequent release. In particular, last year’s stellar record, Norther, portrayed this the best, showcasing a more mature, raspy vocal performance from the frontman. Feeling somewhere between late-career Johnny Cash and fellow alt. country star, Charles Wesley Godwin, he’s proven he has one of the most dynamic voices in the genre.

Lately, he’s flexed his versatility, not in the country or southern rock genre, but rather with some holiday classics.

Just two weekends ago, Smith teamed up with none other than reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year, Lainey Wilson, for a stunning, acoustic rendition of the timeless Christmas classic, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” after the group opened for her at the “Watermelon Moonshine” singer’s sold-out show at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

To no one’s surprise, the pair absolutely crushed the performance. Smith’s warm baritone on the first verse, coupled with Wilson’s always sharp vocals on the second verse, simply sounded like a match made in Heaven on “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.”

This morning, the Austin natives posted a live performance of yet another Christmas classic, “O Holy Night,” and I think it’s safe to say they outdone themselves here.

It should go without saying that “O Holy Night” is not only one of the most iconic Christmas hymns, up there with the likes of “Silent Night” and “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” However, from a technical standpoint, it very well might be the most difficult song to perform, complete with some impressive vocal runs that must be hit to truly nail the song.

Unsurprisingly, Smith and Co. don’t just nail the hymn; they crush it here, along with some guest vocals from Kirk House. Though the clip they posted is unfortunately only about 47 seconds long, you get a great taste for just how powerful their performance was. While Smith’s performance alongside Wilson was impressive in its own right, this one right here blows it out of the water. Simply put, it would be a disservice if we never get a full version of this performance.
