Report: Arsenal set to hijack deal to sign €62.5m forward

Arsenal are trying to make a last-ditch move to sign Brazilian attacker Matheus Cunha, according to Valentin Furlan. The Gunners are searching for attacking reinforcements this summer, and Cunha’s versatility has reportedly caught the eye of Mikel Arteta and Edu.

However, the move looks unlikely at this stage, with Manchester United close to reaching an agreement with the Wolves forward. United are expected to trigger Cunha’s €62.5million release clause, positioning him as a key part of Rúben Amorim’s tactical plans at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old is lined up to play as an inside left forward in Amorim’s system – a role that suits his direct style, creative link-up play, and ability to score from wide areas.

Arsenal’s interest underlines their need for a dynamic attacking option who can operate across the frontline. Cunha, who has established himself in the Premier League this season, is comfortable playing on the left, as a central striker, or just behind the forward line. That versatility would be a valuable asset in Arteta’s rotation-heavy setup.

Still, it’s unclear where Cunha would be deployed in Arsenal’s system, and with United so far down the line in negotiations, with a clear plan for how he fits, this feels like a long shot. Arsenal may need to look elsewhere for attacking depth if they’re unable to change the direction of the deal.

One player who remains on the club’s radar is Leicester City’s rising star El Khannouss. The Gunners have reportedly opened talks to sign the £22m-rated attacking midfielder, who could offer creativity and goal threat from central areas at a reduced price – saving funds for investment in further players.

Keep up with the latest Arsenal transfer news as the Gunners aim to make key additions in a crucial summer window.
