Red Clay Strays Pull Hilarious Pickle Juice Prank During Red Rocks Headlining Debut: “Shocking When You Think It’s Going To Be Miller Lite”

Who doesn’t love a tour prank?

There is nothing better than when bandmates or opening acts become like family, and you can tease them while touring the nation or world together, eliciting a good laugh. We’ve seen so many great tour pranks over the years, from Zach Top dressing up as Kermit the Frog while touring with Lainey Wilson to Megan Moroney dressing up as Kenny Chesney and riding out on stage on a toy John Deere tractor. Some lighthearted fun is always entertaining for the band and the audience.

While tour pranks usually take place during a final show or a leg of the tour is wrapping up, the best kind are when you least expect it… like during your Red Rocks headlining debut.

Well, the Red Clay Strays had some fun during their headlining debut at Red Rocks. On September 14th and 15th, the Alabama group took the stage of the famed venue, and while it was a career milestone, no doubt, that doesn’t mean it’s strictly business.

While performing “Disaster,” Andrew Bishop, bass guitarist, headed over to Drew Nix’s mic stand to take a swig of his Miller Lite, which is a bit he does each night the band performs this tune. However, instead of his taste buds being met with the delicious taste of the light beer, he was met with the sour brine of pickle juice.

As soon as he took a sip, he spit it back out behind him. Frontman Brandon Coleman begins to chuckle, struggling to make it through the rest of the song, but being a professional, he completes the tune before explaining to the crowd what happened.

“For those of you that don’t know, Andrew always drinks Drew’s beer on that song. So tonight there was pickle juice in the can.”

Andrew then walked over to an open mic and shared with the Colorado crowd how shocking it was to think you’re sipping a beer and to sip on something completely different.

“Pickle juice is very shocking when you think it’s going to be Miller Lite.”

Andrew shared that he was wondering what was up, given that Brandon never looks in his direction during his beer swigging bit, so he was put off by it all but didn’t piece together anything until after the fact.

Apparently, this was not a spur-of-the-moment prank, either, and Brandon would have pulled it at any venue it sounded like. He shared with the crowd and Andrew that he’s been thinking about this for months, but kept forgetting. It was only right that he remember to go through with it while playing the legendary Red Rocks.

“I’ve been thinking about that prank for like 3 months. And I keep forgetting, and eventually I remember to tell Juan. I said, ‘Juan, get some pickle juice.’ Remember when I asked Juan if the pickles were good tonight?”

After Andrew heard that, he felt dumb for not realizing what was going on when Brandon was asking about pickles in front of him before taking the stage.

“I’m an idiot!” 

HA.

As a pickle lover, I would have loved this prank, but I understand that the brine is not for everyone. I bet Andrew Bishop is going to think twice before swigging a beer moving forward on stage.
