A friend and former co-worker of Charlie Kirk’s is pleading that Paramount and Comedy Central make the South Park episode that mocked the political activist available once again.
Back on September 10, conservative media personality and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was killed while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University. He was attempting to have conversations with those who both agreed and disagreed with him – as he often did – and his life was brutally extinguished while he did so.
Since the shocking news spread across the world, politicians, artists, athletes and celebrities to athletes have voiced their support for Kirk, and shared their feelings of sadness, outrage, and horror that a man that was simply trying to talk with others and championed his relationship with Jesus Christ was shot down because of his beliefs.
Prior to Kirk’s assassination, the cartoon comedy program known as South Park had satirized Charlie Kirk and his debate style in an episode titled “Got A Nut” that aired on August 6. But the higher ups at Paramount (who owns Comedy Central) decided to pull the episode from airing on the Comedy Central, while leaving it available to be streamed through Paramount+.
Now, Andrew Kolvet – an executive producer on The Charlie Kirk Show – is calling for Paramount to put the episode that poked fun at Kirk back into the airing rotation on Comedy Central:
“Hey Paramount, as someone who can speak with some authority on this, Charlie loved that he was featured in South Park. He told me many times. He would want the episode back up.”
It’s unclear whether or not Paramount and Comedy Central will ultimately decide to put the episode back on linear television. I’m sure they’d love to hear Andrew Kolvet out and return the “Got A Nut” episode to the lineup, but there’s also probably some concern that they could face backlash, and it could appear as though they are condoning making fun of Charlie Kirk.
That being said, there’s no doubt that Kirk appreciated being featured in the long-running comedy show. He even changed his profile pictures on social media to South Park’s Charlie-Kirk-style-Cartman when the episode was teased and then aired. And when he was asked about being represented in South Park by Fox News Digital, the political activist said he was honored to be included:
“Honestly, my first reaction was that I kinda laughed. It’s kinda funny, and it kinda goes to show the cultural impact and the resonance that our movement has been able to achieve. I look at this as a badge of honor. We as conservatives need to be able to take a joke.
We shouldn’t take ourselves so seriously. That’s something that the left has always done, to great detriment to themselves and the movement. Look, they’re professional comedians. They’re probably going to roast me, and I think that’s fine. That’s what it’s all about, being in public life and making a difference.”
If you haven’t had a chance to check out the episode that featured Cartman as a Charlie-Kirk-type (and since you can only find the episode on streaming), here’s a clip from when South Park went after Kirk back in August:
