Premier League cult hero Jimmy Bullard is going viral again, but this time not for footballing reasons. The former Wigan, Fulham and Hull City midfielder was known for his funny antics on and off the pitch as a player, and the same can be said for his golf career too. Bullard, who is known to be a scratch golfer, didn’t look too pleased when he found out he wasn’t allowed to leave the course until one of them had notched a hole in one. The hole was a manageable 134 yards away, but even someone as good as Bullard showed how difficult the feat was by revealing he’s only once achieved a hole-in-one during his golfing career. In fact, playing partner Ange summed it up by adding that the odds are 12,500/1 for an amateur golfer to achieve the feat. Tackling the par three eighth hole at Reigate Hill Golf Club in Surrey, the day drew on to well over six hours and 700 balls but no success. However, it was unsurprisingly Bullard that made sure that the tents, flashlights and camping beds weren’t needed. Two close attempts left his playing partners on their knees, and then his third bounced twice before slowing up just before the hole and dropping in. The trio’s screams could be heard all across Surrey as Bullard shouted: “Come on then! That’s what I’m talking about! That’s why I’m here!” There was then a bundle on the green, reminiscent of when he famously vaulted onto an Everton goal line scramble during his Wigan days. In fact, during a round at the start of the year they were joined by former world no.2 and Ryder Cup hero Colin Montgomerie. You want to compete, you want the challenge and you are good enough to compete. “It’s the first time I’ve played nine holes with you and I have been very impressed with everything. The putting stroke is superb. “What you’ve got in your hands, the ‘educated hands’ is what we call it in our game. I would say, three years time, give it a bash. I think you’d regret it if you didn’t.”
