A massive donation to Texas flood relief efforts.

By now, we are all familiar with the devastating news about how South-central Texas was ravaged by flash flooding over the 4th of July weekend. At the time of writing, the death toll has reached 133, rescue missions are not recovery missions, with 97 people still unaccounted for. We won’t know the official toll and extent of the damage for weeks (if not months), but we do know that the region currently needs all the help it can get to recover and rebuild.

Just as we have seen with other natural disasters, the country music community quickly had their boots on the ground, planning and organizing benefit relief shows. We all know that music is healing, and artists from Texas, along with those with connections to Texas, are organizing benefit concerts to help heal the Lone Star State.

One of these many benefit shows took place last night and had a massive impact, raising a substantial amount of money.

Last night, July 16th, country artists gathered at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, for Pat Green and Friends: Texas Flood Relief Livestream. The non-ticketed, no-audience livestream created a benefit show that country fans from all over could attend and support a fantastic cause while watching. Pat Green worked with the Texas Rangers and REV Entertainment, Miranda Lambert, Jon Pardi, Dierks Bentley, Corey Kent, Casey Donahew, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Josh Abbott, Ryan Bingham, Eli Young Band, Flatland Cavalry, Joe Nichols, Kaitlin Butts, Ty Myers, Kevin Fowler, Aaron Watson, Jon Wolfe, and more.

The event was a massive success, raising over $1 million for flood relief efforts. Yes, $1 MILLION! That’s incredible. The money raised during the concert went to Kerr County Relief, TEXSAR, and the Do It For Durrett Foundation. Green promised that every single cent given would directly assist those affected.

“We needed to take care of more than just ours. We need to help take care of all the others, too. Playing music when the public is not around is a great opportunity for a rehearsal. We’re already a good band, but it’s fun to play anywhere.”

Green told FOX 4.

He expanded on these thoughts of supporting each other, sharing that Texans are a breed of their own, always looking out for each other.

“Country music, especially Texas country people, we’re thick as thieves. We’re family to each other. All of these people I’ve known for most of my life. I look out for them as much as they look out for me.”

Just like Miranda Lambert said earlier this week, “Texans help Texans,” and Pat Green agrees with that sentiment as well. Growing up in Waco, Texas, Green always knew that the Texas community was filled with people who had each other’s backs, and he feels that now it’s his turn to support those who have supported him. It may look different, but the mantra still stands: those who suffered more than likely supported his career at one point, so it’s time to give back to them.

“I don’t know anything that stands behind Texas better than Texas.”

Pat Green Suffered A “Deeply Personal Loss”

This event holds a deeply personal meaning to Pat Green. After the floods, he shared on Instagram that he had suffered a “heartbreaking and deeply personal loss” due to the flooding.

“Over the weekend, during the devastating flooding that hit Central Texas, my family – like so many others – suffered a heartbreaking and deeply personal loss. We are grieving alongside countless Texans whose lives have been upended by this tragedy.

Right now, we kindly ask for privacy and space as we mourn, support each other, and begin to process what comes next for our family. Thank you for your love, prayers, and compassion.”

After Pat shared that on social media, his wife, Kori, shared more information about their family’s situation on her social media pages, and it’s unimaginable. Kori shared that Pat’s youngest brother, John, his wife, Julia, and two children were swept away in the flood.

“We are so thankful for the outpouring of love and concern. Pat’s little brother John, his wife, Julia, and two of their children were swept away in the Kerrville flood. We are heartbroken and anxiously waiting for all of them to be found. Thank you for your prayers.”

Green’s youngest brother, John Burgess, and his wife, Julia, were staying in the Texas Hill Country to go pick up their eldest daughter at a camp that was not impacted by the flooding. The family had rented a place at the Blue Oak RV Park in Kerr County, which was the region most affected by the floods. When the Guadalupe River began to rise, the RV park was a location that was nearly washed away by the floodwaters.

In an interview with Fox 4, Green opened up about the tragic loss:

“I lost my brother, my sister-in-law, John and Julia, and their two boys. Thankfully, our niece has survived. And now it’s time we think about how we can rebuild the life around her.

And then I thought about how many thousands of people across the great state have been directly affected by this and how many of their families have to do the same thing. I just want to give so much love to my parents who lost their children and their grandchildren.”

Green canceled a concert scheduled for July 5th, as he did not feel it was right to perform with a heavy heart. Even with a heavy heart, mourning the loss of family members, Green is trying to find a positive in it all and has planned this benefit show to help as many people as possible in need.

“For whatever reason, I was given this thing with my voice where I can, I can not only raise awareness but try to change people’s minds. And so, I’m trying to turn the sorrow into some bright light, and hopefully, bring some resolution for these families that have been decimated.”

Pat Green’s impact will not go unnoticed. Texans help Texans, and those who participated in this livestream concert, whether as performers or donors, embody that motto.

Additional Benefit Concerts Organized

Pat Green is not the only one who has stepped up significantly. Many other artists have held or announced additional benefit shows that are unfolding in the weeks and months to come.

Country music artist Josh Weathers organized a benefit concert and raised over $400,000, less than 48 hours after the disaster occurred, which was impressive all around. Then George Strait announced that a “Strait To The Heart” benefit concert was being organized and would take place later this month on July 27. Miranda Lambert has also announced that she has a Texas benefit concert in the works.

The Josh Abbott Band announced their “Deep in the Heart Benefit Concert,” which will feature Carly Pearce, Casey Donahew, Kaitlin Butts, The Panhandlers, and Wade Bowen.

And finally, Robert Earl Keen, who made an early promise to organize a benefit concert, fulfilled that promise, announcing Buc-ee’s Presents Robert Earl Keen and Friends: Applause for the Cause.

On August 28th at Whitewater Amphitheater outside of New Braunfels, Texas, Keen will hit the stage with special guest Tyler Childers, alongside a special trio set from Miranda Lambert, Jon Randall, and Jack Ingram, plus Cross Canadian Ragweed, Randy Rogers, Ryan Bingham, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and more to be announced.
