Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals he’s only spoken to three players since Manchester United exit

The Norwegian highlighted Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof as the trio he has kept in contact with. Following United’s win over Athletic Bilbao, Solskjaer told the BBC: “For me, Harry [Maguire] has always been a leader and a fighter. “I was never in doubt when I signed him and he walked in the door he would be captain for us. “There is another captain there in Bruno. The two of them are top human beings. I was so happy for them last night. “Those two and Victor are probably the only ones still at the club that I have heard from since I left. You want the best for them.” All three players were key parts of Solskjaer’s side, with only Marcus Rashford featuring more times than Maguire and Lindelof. The pair made a combined 250 appearances under their former manager. Maguire was also made captain by Solskjaer in 2020 following Ashley Young’s departure. Meanwhile, Fernandes was also signed by the ex-United striker during the same campaign. The Portuguese went on to provide 79 goal contributions across 97 appearances under Solskjaer. All three players are still at the club over three years on from his exit, although Lindelof’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season. Solskjaer also praised the efforts of Scott McTominay and Fred during his time in charge. He added: “Scott and Fred together, they were lads you would put your hat on every day to give 100%. How you can sell Scott is beyond me.” McTominay was sold to Napoli last summer after 22 years at United, whilst Fred now plays for Turkish side Fenerbahce. The Brazilian could line up against Solskjaer on Sunday, his current side hosting Besiktas. Solskjaer was appointed Besiktas boss in January, his first managerial role since leaving United.

However, he has now revealed only three of his former players who are still at the club have spoken to him since his exit.

The Norwegian highlighted Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof as the trio he has kept in contact with.
