The data doesn’t lie.
This afternoon, it was revealed that country music’s own Morgan Wallen was named Billboard’s #1 all-genre artist of 2025, beating out the likes of Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Kendrick Lamar, Super Bowl halftime show headliner Bad Bunny, and more.
With his placement as the Top Artist of 2025, he is the first country artist to secure the #1 spot since Swift in 2009 and just the second male country artist to ever be crowned Top Artist since Garth Brooks flew to the top with back-to-back wins in 1992 and 1993.
He is also the most-listened-to album on Apple Music globally for 2025, and has the #1 most-listened-to album in the U.S. on Spotify and the Top Country Album on Billboard’s year-end chart with I’m The Problem.
Of course, Wallen has the success of I’m The Problem to thank for his Top Artist of 2025 win, because upon its release (and the weeks following), I’m The Problem broke Wallen’s previously set record of most songs charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in a single week (37). Additionally, he became the first artist ever to spend at least 10 weeks atop the all-genre Billboard’s 200 chart with three consecutive albums and even skyrocketed all the way up to eight-most weeks spent on the chart by any artist in its history. Recently, he also became the first solo act in history to score multiple 20-week #1 hits on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with “What I Want” featuring Tate McRae.
Additionally, Wallen charted the most songs out of any artist in 2025 on Billboard’s all-genre Hot 100 chart with a staggering 41 separate entries. Among these 41 songs include nine Top 10 hits, including the likes of his all-genre #1 with McRae, “What I Want,” as well as “I’m The Problem,” “Just In Case” and “I Got Better.”
He’s been on a monster run, and I think we all knew he would end up as Billboard’s #1 artist for this year:
But for as many fans as he has, and clearly there are a TON of people listening to his music, there are plenty of people who don’t like him… he’s had several controversies due to his offstage antics, one of which almost landed him in jail… I think we all know what happened with the chair-throwing incident in 2024.
In addition, Morgan went through a huge scandal in February 2021, when a video surfaced via TMZ that showed him using a racial slur outside of his Nashville home after a night out. He ended up being banned from country radio, country music award shows and he was even suspended by his label, Big Loud, for a time.
Because of all of those things and more, many are not-so-amused by Wallen and his music, so there was quite a bit of uproar on X (shocker… not) that Wallen claimed the top spot this year. And based on the kind of comments, it’s pretty clear that most of it comes from a certain part of the political spectrum. Is Morgan Wallen Derangement Syndrome a thing?

The comment about Morgan not being popular in Europe made me laugh a little… in July of 2024, he set a record at London’s Hyde Park for the largest country music concert ever held in the United Kingdom, drawing a sold-out crowd of 50,000 fans for his debut headlining show at the iconic venue.
So I think people in Europe, and countries all over the world, are listening to Morgan Wallen…
Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion when it comes to the incredibly subjective thing that is music, but something tells me all this hate has nothing to do with the music. At the end of the day, the numbers don’t lie… there are millions and millions of people around the world who have listened to a ton of Morgan’s music this year, and there was never a doubt in my mind that he would be Billboard’s top artist for 2025.
He probably will be in 2026, too… the haters will LOVE that. The post Morgan Wallen Was Named Billboard’s Top Artist Of 2025, & The Outrage Is Downright Comical first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
