I’m not sure where the hell I’ve been but I had no idea this was even a thing. It’s almost like a matrix glitch to me, or I’ve somehow ended up in another timeline where this exists, since everyone has known about it except for me. Go figure.

Apparently, last month, Mike Patton (yes, of Faith No More, Dead Cross, and more) and The Avett Brothers (yes, the Americana jangle pop type shit) as the somewhat recently formed AVTT/PTTN, released an eight-track album of mixed delights. Yesterday (Saturday, December 6), the trio appeared on CBS Saturday Morning to perform three songs from the self-titled record, which came out November 14.

As part of the program’s “Saturday Sessions” segment, AVTT/PTTN performed “Received”, “Eternal Love” and “Dark Night Of My Soul.” Watch the performances below.

Scott Avett had this to say about working with the legendary Patton:

“Mike’s part of our DNA, like the fabric of our youth. Literally, we studied him. He’s a dear friend now, but when we were younger, I was imitating him.”

Patton himself added:

“My peculiar challenge in this was to become a long distant cousin. A brother that was orphaned. Maybe they kept him in the chicken coop or some shit. They brought him out years and years later.”

Good on them for mixing shit up and doing something a little unexpected. Who would’ve thought? Not me.
