The Cameroon international made errors for both of the French side’s goals as the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final finished 2-2. His mistakes came after Onana was embroiled in a pre-match war of words with ex-United midfielder Nemanja Matic, who now plans for Lyon but was an unused substitute. talkSPORT’s Troy Deeney analysed the situation after game in France, explaining: “The football Gods have told you, ‘stay humble, stay in your place’. “With these type of comments you need to be in a good vein of form. When you see the two goals, it’s amateur hour. “You feel like you’ve come away from home and it couldn’t have gone any better. “Your goalkeeper time and time again is letting you down. That is not the sign of a good goalkeeper.” Onana could now be set to face further competition for his place in the side. Ruben Amorim currently has Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton as alternative options to Onana in goal. However, the club keen to finally land Suzuki two years after their initial pursuit. Suzuki then went on to join Parma for around £6.5million after his loan to Sint-Truiden had been made permanent five months earlier. The 22-year-old has kept five clean sheets in 30 Serie A appearances this term. Meanwhile, he is yet to make a single error leading to a goal in the league. By comparison, Onana has three in the Premier League, with only three goalkeepers producing more so far this season. The former Inter Milan goalkeeper moved to Old Trafford in 2023, signing a five-year deal. United also have an option to extend his contract by a further year through to 2029. Onana has ten clean sheets in 43 appearances in all competitions this season, missing just six matches across the campaign.
