Today was a big day for Luke Combs. Not only did he release his full-throttle new single, “Back In The Saddle,” and the accompanying music video featuring NASCAR legends like Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Richard Petty, but he also shared some big personal news.
In an Instagram story posted ahead of “Back In the Saddle’s” release, Combs shared that he has lost thirty pounds.
“Obviously, I’ve been working real hard on this record for a long time, and I’ve got this lead single coming out. I’m just jazzed, man. Good day. Great day to be alive.
Kid’s down 30 lbs. Lot of hard work. Lot of missed cakes on birthdays. But anyway, I just wanted to say that I’m real thankful for you guys, I’m real thankful for this next phase of whatever the music is or turns into.”

Luke Combs has more willpower than I do; I can’t say no to birthday cake. He’s had quite a few birthdays to celebrate recently, too, given that his wife, Nicole, and his son, born son Tex, just turned three (and he had a sick Dale Earnhardt-themed birthday party too).
Over the last few years, Combs has been working on his physical appearance, trying to shed a few pounds. Back in 2023, after Tex was born, Combs shared on the Joe Rogan Experience that his weight is always something he struggled with.
“I think my physical fitness, and my appearance, and my size has always been something that I struggled with, from the time I was a child. And it’s this mountain that I’ve always been standing at the bottom of, trying to run up but then inherently slipping down every time, right?
And it’s this thing that I feel like if I don’t overcome it in my lifetime, it will be my biggest regret, without a doubt.”
It was refreshing to hear Combs open up about this struggle, and it was one of the first times we had heard him discuss his struggles so vulnerably. Since this moment, we’ve listened to Combs open up about other struggles, including his OCD, as well. However, this conversation was one of the first in-depth conversations we’ve heard from Combs.
Combs shared that he’s never felt insecure about his weight because of what others think of him, but more that his insecurity stems from the thought of not being able to go outside and hunt with his boys when they get older. Combs shared that his health and wellness journey was something he wanted to do for himself, but he had the support of his family. When the day finally comes that he’s fully confident and at his ideal weight, it will mean so much to him and his family:
“And I’m excited for that day to come, because I know that will mean so much to me. I want it to mean something to my children…
I wanna be runnin’ around the yard with my children. I wanna take my son on an elk hunt when he’s 16 years old and hike up a mountain when I’m in my late 40s. I wanna do that with him. And I know right now I can’t do that with him, and that bugs the shit outta me.”
From this update, Combs is on the right path to achieving his goal weight, and from the pictures he has shared, it appears that he is living his best life, enjoying outdoor activities with his kids.
